1 Alarm Fire: 3341 Ibsen Avenue (Oakley) Date: 07/12/2006 Time: 08:17 p.m.
This is District Four-Fire Chief Rob McWilliams reporting that on July 12, 2006 at 8:17 PM fire units were requested to respond to the report of an explosion behind 3341 Ibsen Avenue.
Upon arrival residents on Ibsen Avenue told fire units that an explosion was heard and smoke was seen in the rear of 3341 Ibsen Avenue. Fire personnel were also informed that there was a second explosion heard; the first occurring 30 to 40 minutes prior to the second.
Fire companies investigating the property behind the Ibsen Avenue address discovered a piece of debris embedded in the rear exterior siding of the Crossroads Church. (3500 Madison Rd.)
This discovery prompted the response of the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit, the Cincinnati Bomb Unit and the ATF. The determination of what exploded and the cause are currently still under investigation.
No injuries were reported due to this incident.

2 Alarm Fire: 3216 Golden Avenue (Mt. Lookout) Date: 07/14/06 Time: 02:45 a.m.
This is District Chief Howard Reed from the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a two-alarm fire that occurred at 2:45 AM on 7/14/06. The fire originated at 3216 Golden Avenue in a two-story single-family structure.
Upon our arrival, we found heavy fire come from the structure's second floor rear and roof area. A second alarm fire response was requested to get additional firefighters on the scene. A total of 46 firefighters responded to the incident.
After fire companies were on the scene for a few minutes, the rear roof collapsed into the second and first floor, resulting in fire companies maintaining a defensive position. The fire totally destroyed the structure. The damage estimate to the structure is $100,000.
The structure was vacant and there were no reports of any civilians or firefighters being injured. There are fire companies still at the scene conducting overhauling and salvage operation. Fire investigator Paul Alloway responded and started a preliminary investigation to determine what caused this fire.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Incident: Mutual Aid into the City of Norwood OH. - 3934 Spencer Avenue. Date 7/16/06 Time 12:44 p.m.
This is Acting District Four Fire Chief Cedric Robinson reporting that on July 15, 2006 at 12:44 PM the Norwood Fire Department requested that the Cincinnati Fire Department Bomb Unit respond to the report of dynamite in a single family residence located at 3934 Spencer Avenue in Norwood.
Upon our arrival, Norwood Fire Chief Curt Goodman informed Cincinnati Units that three 50-pound boxes of crystallizing explosives were in the residence; the bomb unit discovered the occupant had moved the boxes to the porch area.
After evacuating the area, fire units removed the packages one at a time and transported them to the old BASF site where the boxes of neutralized explosives were allowed to burn off.
Twenty-nine firefighters from Norwood and Cincinnati responded to the incident, which lasted 12 hours. The firefighters received support from the City of Norwood and its Administration, the Norwood Police Department, the Cincinnati Police Department, the Hamilton County Canine Unit and the American Red Cross to neutralize the situation.
There were no reported injuries and no property loss. The evacuation had an impact on approximately 20 families, who were displaced from their homes for eight hours.

1 Alarm Fire: 375 Dixmyth Avenue "Good Samaritan Hospital" (Clifton) Date: 7/31/2006 Time: 8:22 p.m.
This is Acting District Chief Michael Hines reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred at Good Samaritan Hospital.
On July 31, 2006 at 8:22 p.m. fire units were dispatched to a building under construction that had smoke coming from its roof.
Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a fire on the roof of a ten-story building. To fight the fire, firefighters hauled equipment through the hospital to its ninth floor, then crossed over into the new construction, and up a flight of steps onto its roof.
Once on the roof, firefighters encountered a 36 square foot area under the roof burning. A welder's torch had ignited foam insulation, which burned through six inches of foam and ignited a wood frame at the base of a roof ventilation system.
Thirty-one firefighters spent approximately 1 1/2 hours cutting the rubber roof and insulation away to extinguish the fire. Damage was estimated to be approximately $50,000.00.

1 Alarm Fire: 3657 Hillside Avenue (Riverside) Date: 08/01/06 Time: 10:30 a.m.
This is District Chief Ronald Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on an explosion in a one family dwelling and fire that occurred on 8/1/06 at 10:30 AM.
Fire companies responded to 3657 Hillside Avenue in Riverside for a report of an explosion and fire. The first arriving fire company confirmed a building had exploded and heavy fire was coming out of flatten debris.
The one-alarm fire complement extinguished the bulk of fire within about one hour. The dwelling was vacant at time of the incident. The debris from the building also damaged dwellings on both sides of the structure, which exploded.
Duke Energy, Cincinnati Metro, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Cincinnati Building Department responded to assist the Fire Department. The heat created a hardship on all members working at the incident and members had to be rehabbed frequently. There were not any injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Damage to the three structures is estimated at $80,000. The cause of the incident is undetermined and is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit.
A fire company and fire investigators remain on the scene with a demolition company to arrive at a cause and complete extinguishment in the building's concealed spaces.

1 Alarm Fire: 5343 Chapman Street (Madisonville) Date: 8/3/06 Time: 3:36 AM
This is District Chief David Collini reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred at 5343 Chapman Street on 8/3/06 at 3:36 AM.
Some Madisonville residents had a scare this A.M. when smoke detectors alerted them of a fire at the Chapman address. All occupants, three adults and four children, escaped safely when a resident there was up late cooking food on the stove and the kitchen became involved in fire. The fire extended to exterior walls and into the second floor. Approximately 30 firefighters fought the high temperature, humidity and the fire in the early morning hours.
No injuries to either firefighters or civilians. Fire was quickly brought under control with an aggressive interior fire attack. Fire loss is estimated at $15,000. The American Red Cross and family members were assisting occupants.

1 Alarm Fire: 560 Purcell Avenue (Price Hill) Date: 08/07/06 Time: 05:22 p.m.
This is District Chief Ron Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred at 560 Purcell Avenue in upper Price Hill on 8/7/06 at 5:22 PM. Fire companies responded to a report of a building on fire and discovered heavy fire and smoke coming from a three-story dwelling with the bulk of fire on the third floor. Companies made an aggressive attack and brought the fire under controlwithin about 25 minutes but remained on scene about four hours. There were not any injuries to civilians or firefighters. Smoke detectors operated in the building. The cause is listed as undetermined until the Fire Investigation Unit completes its investigation. The loss to the building and contents is estimated at $ 100,000 dollars.

2 Alarm Fire: 1921 Westmont Ave (Price Hill) Date: 8/17/06 Time: 03:35 AM
This is District Chief Ronald Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a two-alarm fire in Price Hill. Fire companies responded on 8/17/06 at 03:35 AM to 1921 Westmont Avenue for a report of a building fire.
Fire Companies arrived on scene and discovered heavy smoke coming from the second and third floor of a three-story apartment building. Fire companies made an aggressive attack on the fire, and later discovered an extension of fire in a pipe chase leading to the third floor.
The fire traveled up the pipe chase and traveled up ceiling and roof space. The situation created a heavy manpower need to stop the fire from spreading further. The second alarm response was dispatched because of the extension problem. Fire companies cut off the extension areas and brought the fire under control. The Cincinnati Fire investigation Unit determined that food left unattended on the stove cause the fire. The loss is estimated at $100,000.
The American Red Cross is assisting three families, which included 6 adults and 10 children. There were no injuries to civilians but one firefighter suffered a slight strain to his knee after tripping over a hose line, he was treated at the scene. Smoke detectors were in place but not working.

1 Alarm Fire: 1721 Baymiller Street (West End) Date: 08/22/06 Time: 11:15 a.m.
This is District Chief Ronald Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department, reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred on 8/22/06 at 11:15 AM in the West End.
Fire companies responded to a report of a building fire at 1721 Baymiller Street. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered heavy smoke coming from the second floor of a four-story apartment building.
The Fire companies brought the fire under control very quickly and confined the fire to the kitchen area of Apartment 5. The cause of the fire is being investigated, and currently listed as undetermined. The fire loss is estimated at $5,000.
There were no injuries to civilians but one firefighter received a slight cut to his face. The firefighter was treated on the scene and remained on duty. Smoke alarms were in the apartment and did activate.

1 Alarm Fire: 100 W 64th Street btn. Rosewood & Highland (Carthage) Date: 08/24/06 Time: 01:58 am
This is District Four, Chief Robert McWilliams, reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred on August 24, 2006 at 1:58 AM at 100 64th Street in Carthage.
When fire units arrived, they found fire showing on the exterior wall of a three-story frame two family dwelling. An aggressive fire attack contained the fire to one exterior wall in this balloon-constructed structure.
Twenty-five Firefighters remained on the scene for two hours extinguishing the fire and overhauling. Two residents where home on the first floor. They were alerted by the smell of smoke and escaped uninjured. Damage is estimated at $25,000.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit.

1 Alarm Fire: 33 Green Street (Over The Rhine) Date: 08/24/06 Time: 04:20 p.m.
This is District Two Chief John Zompero of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on two fires that occurred this afternoon; both can be attributed to children playing with cigarette lighters.
The first fire occurred at 33 Green Street in the Over the Rhine area. Fire companies were dispatched at 4:20 PM and found clothing burning in a closet. The fire was quickly extinguished but not before causing $3000 in fire and smoke damage throughout the building. There were no reported injuries and the smoke detectors in the apartment that were sounding on our arrival.
1 Alarm Fire: 341 Crestline Avenue (Price Hill) Date 08/24/2006 Time: 17:36
The second fire occurred at 341 Crestline in Price Hill. Fire companies were dispatched at 5:36 PM for a report of a bedroom on fire. Upon reaching the third floor, fire crews found a mattress and box springs on fire and removed them from the building before it was able cause damage to the structure. The tenants attempted to extinguish the fire prior to our arrival, there were no injuries. There were functional smoke alarms on the fire floor but did not sound due to the light smoke conditions. The fire did an estimated $500.00 in damage.

1 Alarm Fire: 626 Rockdale (Avondale) Date: 8/28/2006 Time: 5:38 AM
This is Acting District Chief Michael Hines reporting on a fire this morning in Avondale.
Fire companies were dispatched at 5:38 AM to 626 Rockdale where they discovered a kitchen fire in apartment 16. Two adult occupants escaped from the situation prior to our arrival.
Apparently they occupants were cooking, lay down and left the food unattended. The Fire started on top of the stove and extended into the wall. Fire units quickly extinguished the fire; the fire still caused significant damage to the kitchen and smoke throughout the apartment.
There were 28 fire personnel on the scene for approximately one hour brining the situation under control. The American Red Cross was asked to respond to take care of the two displaced adults. Damage was estimated to be $5,000.00.

1 Alarm Fire: 2980 Spring Grove Avenue (Queen City Steel Treating Company) Date: 8/28/06 Time: 08:59 p.m.
This is Cincinnati Acting District Three Fire Chief Daniel Merz reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at Queen City Steel Treating Company located at 2980 Spring Grove Avenue.
Fire personnel were dispatched for a fire inside of an oil vat.
Fire Units confirmed an oil fire on the exterior of the vat. The fire was extinguished using Foam. The cause of the fire was an "overheated" motor due to a blown fuse. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
There were 32 fire personnel utilized at this incident. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 40 minutes. There were no injuries to fire personnel.

1 Alarm Fire: 2670 Wendee Drive Date: 09/04/06 Time: 16:28hrs
This is District Two Fire Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 2670 Wendee Drive on September 4, 2006.
At 4:28 pm fire companies responded to a report of a building fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed smoke coming from the second floor front window of a two-story apartment complex. An interior attack on the fire was initiated, along with a primary search and evacuation of the apartment building. The main body of fire was located in the kitchen area of a second floor apartment and quickly extinguished. Fire and smoke damage was contained to the apartment of origin. The primary search confirmed all occupants exited safely. The cause of the fire resulted from "food left unattended on the stove". Fire loss was set at $10,000. There was a smoke detector with battery present in the hallway, however fire fighters stated it wasn't sounding. Fire personnel installed a new smoke detector in the apartment. The Red Cross was called to assist with the displacement of 2 adult and 2 children. There were 32 fire personnel utilized at this incident. They were on the scene for approximately one hour. There were no injuries to civilians or fire fighters as a result of this incident.
