1 Alarm Fire: 2725 Faber Ave btn. Harrison & Dautel (Fairmount) Date: 12/28/06 Time: 16:33 HRS
This is District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reporting on a one-alarm fire in Fairmont, at 2725 Faber Avenue.
At 4:33 PM, fire fighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 2725 Faber Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the first and second floors of a two-story duplex. Fire companies made an interior attack and quickly brought the fire under control, keeping it to one side of the duplex.
The fire started when an occupant left grease cooking on the stovetop; thereafter, he left the house to run a quick errand. When the occupant returned, he found his kitchen on fire. After exiting his home, he called 911.
The fire did heavy damage to the first and second floors of the south side of the duplex. The other side suffered minimal damage.
Twenty-eight fire fighters were used to battle the blaze. The home had working smoke alarms.
The fire loss is listed at $50,000. No injuries to occupants or fire fighters occurred. Six adults and three children were displaced from their homes and the American Red Cross is assisting them.
