BRIEFLY DESCRIBE INCIDENT: CFD 1 Alarm Compliment was dispatched for a working fire in a frame 2 story with attic (2A) single family residence. First arriving companies discovered a small basement fire and quickly extinguished the fire through an aggressive fire attack. 2 occupants were assisted from the building; a 3rd occupant, thought to be at home, had apparently left out for other reasons prior to the fire. A monitored fire alarm system alerted residents and 911 emergency dispatch to the situation. Damage was limited to fire destruction of a small dresser and smoke throughout the building. After completing patient care, the fire company responded and found a working fire on the second floor of a vacant 2 story single family dwelling. Shortly afterward, at 1952 hrs Fire Communication received a call for a reported fire and dispatched the remaining fire companies. An aggressive interior fire attack quickly brought the fire under control. Fire companies were on the scene for approximately 2 hours. The fire is currently under investigation.

Companies quickly knocked down the second floor fire and searched for remaining victims. All occupants had evacuated. Damage was extensive in the apartment of origin, with heavy smoke damage to parts of the second floor and is estimated at $25,000.00. Car 511 still investigating.

Upon arrival, the second floor of a 2 story with an attic building was fully engulfed. During initial fire attack operations, gunfire erupted in the area from an unknown location near the fire building, striking one firefighter in his helmet, and narrowly missing several others. None of the firefighters were injured and a defensive posture was taken due to the volume of fire and other circumstances. Once a majority of the fire was extinguished, companies evaluated the structural stability of the building, then went in for extensive overhaul and extinguishment. The Cincinnati FIU is on scene and investigating the cause. There was not anybody living in the building at the time of the fire, however squatters were know to inhabit the building frequently. At the time of this release, companies are still on the scene extinguishing “hot spots.”

The Cincinnati Fire Department Bomb unit prosecuted the suitcase using robotic devices to determine there was no threat present. It was later discovered the suitcase was removed by the owner’s son as they were loading a chest into his SUV and it was accidently left on the sidewalk.

It was quickly confirmed there were 6 people in the water. Two of the victims were able to swim to shore and were treated for minor injuries and transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for evaluation. The other 4 people were found about a half mile down river clinging to a log. Cincinnati Fire Boat Zodiac 14 and the Belleview Kentucky Water Rescue Boat 225 were able to retrieve the victims from the water and safely transport them to shore. They were evaluated and released with no injuries or complaints. The victims reported their 24 foot pleasure craft hit a log, the motor stopped running, and they immediately began to take on water. It was only a few minutes after when they all were forced to jump into the water. Boone County Water Rescue was working to retrieve the boat and bring it to shore.

As of the time of this report companies were still on the scene overhauling and extinguishing hot spots. The fire is being investigated at this time and no cause has been determined.
