To my complete surprise I just heard that CFD has ordered a new fleet of spare engines and that they should be arriving shortly. Does anyone have information regarding these pumpers?

I spoke with a couple of people regarding the new spares and they both told me the same thing. Apparently the new apparatus will be commercial chassis pumpers purchased through the Ohio state bid process.
All of the engines that I have seen that were purchased in this manner were IH/Pierce. Has anyone seen anything different?

If approval is received the new spare engines will be custom chassis apparatus and from a manufacturer that is not located in Florida.....

Has anyone heard if the contract was signed? I was told that the new rigs would be built by Sutphen.

The rumor going around is that the new spares are Sutphen's. I was wondering if anyone has found anything on the city websites about the bid being awarded and maybe if it says what kind of engines they are going to be, i.e. commercial cab or custom cab pumpers. Please dear lord let them be custom cab's as those family truckster Freightliners suck!! ;D

I saw the drawings for them and they are Sutphen customs. At this point I still haven't heard if the contract was signed. Now if they would only be delivered with a red roof......

Where did you see the drawings for them, was it online somewhere? If so I'd like to know where so I can check them out. I doubt they will have red roofs. I don't know if it's a garage thing or an admin thing with going to white over red, but everyone will be that way.
Another rumor I've heard is that new ladders are being looked at, along with some new engines, from Seagrave. Rumor has it the next new ladder to be purchased will be a tandem axle Seagrave RM. Now if that holds true in the end is yet to be seen. ;D

Hi,
I just happened to run into Capt. Thomas at Central Stores a few weeks back and asked him about the engine bid. The drawings were handy so he let me take a peek.
The red roof is a personal crusade. I just prefer all red apparatus. If I could change things (as opposed to just rambling on at this forum) I would like to see gold reflective stripes instead of white with that red roof! A much more traditional look.
Seagrave would be very nice. I've always been a big fan of their apparatus.

Box 2565 any info you can dish out on the new spare engines would be greatly appreciated, if you remember anything from getting to check out the specs. Thanks.

Hi,
I received an e-mail from a firefighter that was inspecting an engine his department had on order at Sutphen. he said that the 4 C.F.D. engines are on the line and were having bodies mounted. He thought they would be completed in roughly a month.

I was told by a by a fellow firefighter from Southgate Fire Dept (KY) that while they were at Sutphen on 12/21 for a preconstruction meeting on their new pumper, that they saw at least 1 of the new pumpers for Cinti on the line and they were told 1 has already been delivered recently.

haven't seen them yet as I have yet to make it down the garage. I heard that 2 are in, white roofs, red body's roll up doors, and they are seriously being considered for front line service. Rumor has it the city is upset with the total cost for all of the recent EOne pumpers and repairs they undertook right after delivery. They told the garage/FD that if the dont buy something that cost less they are going to require them to buy commercial chassis. So I think you might start seeing more state bid Sutphens coming this way. But I have no clue as to what they might start doing for ladders to save money.

It will be interesting to see if any of the new Sutphen's end up assigned to a company(s). I've been expecting see see a chnage in apparatus purchases this year as All American Fire Apparatus no longer represents E-One. They are now the Rosenbauer/General Safety/Central States dealer.
