The Purchasing Department site shows the following bid open until March 6: Remounting of City Owned Ambulance Body on New City Owned Chassis. I know someone mentioned that there were supposed to be 4 (I think) bodies remounted. Have the chassis already been purchased, and if so, what make are they and is the number 4 correct?

I can't remember for sure who told me. It was one of the Chiefs or someone in Fire Div. Supply or Fleet Services that said that there were going to be 4 remounts.

This bid has been awarded, but the information on the web site doesn't indicate a make of chassis. Has anyone heard what they will be? More International's?

O.K., it's been 6 months now and i haven't seen an ambulance running around on a new chassis! Has the process of transferring the old bodies to the new chassis begun? Sure would like to see one before the snow flies!

Yes, I can confirm that the process has begun. The work is being done by Life-Star Ambulance in Van Wert, Ohio. We were up there roughly a month ago for an inspection of our new Braun unit. Braun's assembly plant is also in Van Wert and Life-Star is the regional Braun rep.
We saw one of the CFD modules in the early phases of the refurb process...they need a lot of work! One of the chassis was also in the building as well. It was a Navistar. Don't remember the make/model though (a 4400 maybe?).
Life-Star does pretty good work. They do a bunch of remounts and collision repair as well as warranty work for Braun. Dayton just got several remounts completed there. Other than the hideous slime paint and aqua upholstery they looked good.

The process has begun on remounting ambulance chassis', or should we say Rescue unit chassis. It's my understanding that R46 frontline was in better shape then most so the box was rehabbed and remounted on a new chassis.

TEXTi was just loking at life-stars web site and in their used apparatus page at the bottom were 2 chassis for sale that looked like cfd ambulance front ends (one picture said blown motor) plus looked like they put well worn tires on the chassis

Okay, so dont hold me to what I said the first time. Ambulance 12 and Ambulance 23 (currently A32) have new Ambulances. A12's was first in service as R38, I am assuming a remounted R38. Then R38 got a brand new apparatus and their remount was given to the 12's. A23 has R46's remount with R46 received a brand new box as well. Atleast thats the way I now understand it.

Here' what I know, which is usually very little. I was on A-12 the day R-38 got their new unit, the old one (only a year old) was assigned to A-12. Apparatus number 11450, I think, began with 11 anyway. We picked it up from the garage but did not change over because of the late hour. The front line we (A-12) came out of was a 96, apparatus 61450, which was definitely not a re-mount. It had 180,000 mi on it, and was a... well lets just say it has seen better days. R-38 new apparatus IS a re-mount. Very nice, with LED brake, park and turn lights.
I doubt this will help anyone, but there it is anyway.
