At 0700 January 29, 2006, Captain John Raterman put Squad 9 in service for the very first time. They will operate out of the 1985 Salsbury spare apparatus of Squad 52 until the new heavy rescue is complete in late April, they will then move into Squad 52's current frontline apparatus.

George (or anyone else),
Two questions...
So, is Squad 9 running from 5th & Central or have they shoe-horned the Saulsbury into the 9's house?
Also, did Squad 52 change designations to Squad 14? I know I heard Squad 14 get dispatched to the 2 alarm at Reading and Maple the other night.
Thanks! Mark

per youngstown message board:
Fire chief studies fiscal cuts Posted: Yesterday at 2:32 am Download Post
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cincinnati made several changes on Sunday the 29th. Truck 14 at 5th & Central (Headquarters) was disbanded and Squad 9 was placed in service. Squad 9 is scheduled to operate from the 9's house after their new station is constructed on Reading Road just south of Avon Drive. The construction of the new firehouse is up in the air as the contractor has balked at building the place to the rise in construction costs after Katrina. Temporarily Squad 9 is supposed to be quartered with Engine & Truck 32 on Forest Avenue west of Reading Road.
On Sunday Squad 9 was responding from the 14's house (yep, both Squads in 1 station). Not sure of the reason for this or how long this arrangement will last. There was a 2nd alarm at a group home at Reading & Maple Sunday night. This location is within sight of the 32's house. I don't know if Squad 9 or 14 was assigned to the fire. Also, Squad 52 no longer exists. As oF Sunday their unit designation was changed to 14.

The name changes are a result of the CAD system and the area of coverage. The 52's had the whole city, so all runs meeting the criteria had them on the box. Now with two, they have to be assigned by geographic area. The numbers on the houses are already set up to go with certain areas, so it was a no brainier to split the city with the existing geographics and take advantage of the numbers relating to specific areas. Needless to say, this does not sit well with most of the members of the 52's, but logic must prevail. I still say "Squad 52" when I answer the phone . Yes, they are both running out of 5th and Central for a brief period. A lot of training and drill has to take place before the split, after all there are more than twice as many members as before the change, and everyone must be on the same page before the separation.

When does the Rescue/Ambulance name changing occur, if ever?

Heard the 1985 Ford/Saulsbury at Fifth & Central now has "9" on the door. Has SQ-14's apparatus also been re-numbered?

Yes, the Saulsbury now has a "9" on the door. This was done by the company members, not the Garage.

and to think I was gonna say what a crappy job the garage did on the re-numbering. What else does the Jesus Squad have in store for the Saulsbury? ;D
