While looking at the new additions to CFD History, I was reminded of a story my Dad told years ago. He grew up in Bond Hill & witnessed a crash involving E-48 & another vehicle. He told me the 48's hit a light pole after being struck by the vehicle & part of the pole came down & killed one of the fireman riding on the back. There was a crowd of people who witnessed this. My Dad stated that this was a popular corner for hanging out. Sadly, the group who witnessed this crash included the dead fireman's kid/s as they were from Bond Hill also. This was May of '42. My Dad had enlisted in the Army Air Corp & was on his way to Patterson Field in Dayton. This WEB site verifies that John Nehus of E-48 was killed at the corner of Paddock & Laidlaw. Ironically, there is a picture of this intersection taken 12 years prior, that is in the Dispatch portion of Support listed under Fire Companies. Thanks to all for the old pictures. Keep up the great work!
