Hello Everyone,
Recently I have been conducting further genealogy research on my great grandmother Sarah Fanning who appears to be born, raised and lived in Cincinnati from about the 1862 to 1895 time period before she moved to New York with my great grandfather Henry Roth and their first born daughter Lorretta Roth.
I have found Cincinnati census records from 1850 to 1880 and 1900 - 1910 pertaining to my Fanning ancestors. My great grandmother's father and brother were both named Bartholomew Fanning, and I have seen their names spelled as either Bart, Bartly or Bartley Fanning.
Bartholomew the father was born about 1833 in Ireland, and I see that he was living in Cincinnati as he was recorded in the 1850 Census records with brothers and a sister. The 1860 census lists him as a fireman, and a fellow researcher was kind enough to provide the following information:
On Page 135 of a book named the History of the Cincinnati Fire Department, there was mention of a Fanning, B. being a driver at Deluge Steam Engine Company #10 located on the northwest corner of 3rd and Lawrence Streets.
Bartholomew the son, and brother to my great grandmother was born about 1864 in Cincinnati. I found an 1890-1891 Cincinnati Directory entry for him listed as Bartley Fanning, city fireman for the Hook and Ladder Co. No. 6
In the 1900 Cincinnati census I see that Bart Fanning was still working as a fireman. By this time I see that he had been married to a lady named Sallie since about 1896.
I was curious to know if anyone out there reading this message may be able to provide me any further information about either the father or son both named Bartholomew "Bartley" Fanning who worked for the Cincinnati fire department? Perhaps there are even photos of Bartholomew the son from the 1890 - 1900 time period somewhere?
Any further details or information on my Fanning ancestors who worked in the Cincinnati fire department would greatly be appreciated!
I would be glad to share further Fanning genealogy notes that I have which may help out in this quest.
Colin
