Hello everyone, glad to be here. Since I'm new, I have lots of questions. My first is: who responses to calls on the Ohio River bridges? I would think CFD, but I don't know if Newport or Covington goes to them. And, what about the interstate bridges? Does CFD cover southbound lanes or is it all Kentucky F.D.s? Any answers will be greatly accepted.

On the majority of runs both Cincinnati and the appropriate department in Kentucky respond. Since the state line runs through the bridges it's difficult to determine which agency is responsible for the run until a unit arrives on the scene. I'm not aware of an official policy for both departments to respond, but the 9-1-1 calls for bridge/river incidents are often phoned in on both sides of the river.
Cincinnati responds to the majority of runs on the Ohio River simply because they have larger and better equipped boats. Covington has a small rescue boat and I believe there is also a rescue boat at Silver Grove. Boone County (Kentucky) water rescue and Dearborn County (Indiana) also have fireboats.
Welcome to the CFD History forums!
