What is the FAA Index for Lunken Airport (ie. Index A, B, C, D, E)?
For anyone that is not familiar with this, it is an assignment by the FAA based on the size of aircraft that utilizes an airport and the amount of water, etc. that is required at the airport.
I read something about small airports being required to have at least 2 Crash trucks in service in the event that 1 breaks down while enroute to an aircraft emergency. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, wouldn't it be helpful if Engine 18 were assigned a foam pumper? The Blue Grass Army Depot at Richmond, Kentucky operates this 1999 Pierce Saber pumper with a 1250 gpm pump, 560 gallon tank, and 200 gallons of foam. The remote control foam nozzle is mounted on the front bumper next to the soft suction. Something similar to this (except that an all red Seagrave would be nice!) might be a good unit for Wilmer Road!

The FAA Index for Lunkin Field is L. I need to find out what protection is needed for this class. A breakdown of the other Indexes are as follows: A runway less than 90' in length 1 vehicle with 500# powder and 100 gal. AFFF B runway is 90' to 126' - 1 vehicle with 1500 water plus A requirements C runway is 126 to 159' - 2 vehicles with 3000 water plus A requirements D runway is 159 to 200' - 3 vehicles with 4000 water plus A requirements E runway is over 200' - 3 vehicles with 6000 water plus A requirements The ratings are done on the longest group of 5 flights or more daily. For more specific info, you can go to the FAA website. Lists every airport in the US by its Index. Ohio airports with class A Index are: Cleveland Cuyahoga County and Burke Lakefront and in Columbus you have Ohio State University. Index B in Ohio is Akron and Toledo Airports Index C is Cleveland Hopkins, Columbus Int and Dayton Int. Index D None Index E None Now what is L? ? I'll try and find out.

I was able to find the following. Apparently there are different Indexes for various things at airports. Airport Fire Departments are classified under the ARFF Index (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting).
Apparently the FAA does not know the ARFF Index for Lunken Airport, because I contacted the FAA and they were not able to find the information for me.
I am told that the following are the ARFF Indexes: Index A Index B Index C Index D Index E
Now I can remember reading something about an Index L in the past, however, I am hearing that it is only A through E, so who knows.
Index A is the smallest and Index E is the largest airport. Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport is an ARFF Index D Airport.
The way that I understand it is that the following info is used to determine the ARFF Index:
Minimum Aircraft Length in feet, Maximum Aircraft Length in feet, Number of Passengers, Maximum Gallons of Fuel Carried, Gallons of Water Required by NFPA to Extinguish the Aircraft, ARFF Fire Apparatus Required

Apparently an attempt may be made in the future to have the index rating changed that will put the department started in the direction of having FAA funding for a new ARFF unit.
