I was reading throught the Enquirer last week and came across an article about the Finn Corporation. For those of you not familiar with their products they manufacture equipment used for installing grass using a method called hydroseeding. You may have seen this equipment used by small landscapers up large companies like Evans Landscaping. Finn Corporation is located in Fairfield and every once in a while they will build a piece of fire equipment. Going to their website www.finncorp.com take a look at the "hydroseeders". This is self contained tank that's either mounted on a trailer or straight truck that has a capacity of a few hundred gallons up to 3,300 gals of water/grass/fertilizer solution. A company called A1 Fireout Company recently took delivery of a 3,300 gals tanker that will allow a fire-retardent polymer to be mixed with water and sprayed on vegetation and homes. I haven't been able to find any pictures yet, but it sounds quite interesting. As a side note Evans Landscaping runs a Caterpillar tractor (tread style) that has a hydroseeding tank mounted to the back which allows the unit access to some diffiucult terrain. The combination would prove interesting to see if feasible in a wildfire setting. If anyone gets a Evans calender or check their website they might have a picture of it.
