The new station will be located on the west side of Reading Road south of Avon Drive where the Sugar and Spice restaurant is located. I'm not sure if the restaurant is going to be torn down or if the land to the south of that site is where the new house will be.
Hopefully things will start moving along for the new quarters for the 8's too!

The Cincinnati Enquirer April 17, 2005
NORTH AVONDALE
Engine 9 fire station to move
The city of Cincinnati plans to spend about $1.5 million to move the North Avondale fire station. Engine Company 9, which has served the neighborhood from a fire station at Reading and Paddock roads since 1929, will soon move to a new station half a mile up Reading Road to a spot north of Victory Parkway. Engine 9 was the home of Oscar Armstrong III, who died in 2003 battling a fire in Bond Hill. The city is requesting design proposals.

The new firehouse will be built on the land that is between Sugar & Spice and the bank to the south. Ground breaking will reportedly be in January of 2006.

On Tuesday, September 19, 2006, the City of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Fire Department will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for our new fire station, which will be located at 4379 Reading Road. The ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM. It would be great if you could be in attendance at our event, your presence would add to the event. By the new fire station replaces the current Engine 9, which was built in 1929. The new station will be a two-story structure with a total square footage of 15,555 square feet. The new station will house Engine 9, Squad 9 and Ambulance 9. Two features that are unique to the new station are that it will have its kitchen and conference room on its second floor, the only station in the City with such design.
FYI, the following are the Fire Department's Parking arrangements: The Fire Department will provide a shuttle service for the ceremony. The shuttle will pick up individuals that are parked in the following parking lots: Upper parking lot for Avon Fields Golf Course, 4081 Reading Road The O.N.G. Armory Parking Lot, 4130 Reading Road
The shuttle will run continuously from 0930 hours until 1030 hours. It will then run continuously for one hour, along the same route, at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Things are moving along with the new station. I went by there yesterday and the outer walls are up for most of the building giving a good idea of how the station will look. I was surprised at how the building is situated on the lot as I thought the front of the station would be farther back from Reading Road. I posted a picture of the current construction on the 9's page.

Word has it that construction on the new station will be completed in September. There is a recent photo of the house on the 9's page and the building is really coming along. You can get a good idea of the final shape that the station will be

O.K. - If the copper plumbing survives then I've heard that November 20th is the date that the 9's will be in service at the new house. Apparently some items have been moved from the current station to the new place.
Also I've been told the dedication ceremony is scheduled for November 15th at 10:00 a.m.
Steve
I've changed this!! The date is Thursday the 15th!

Does anybody know if or when the 9's house might be finished, I have heard there are problems with the floors. But do they have a plan to fix it.
