Just an idea that I want to throw out and see what people think. In other towns the functions of air bottle supply and fire scene lighting are combined onto one vehicle. Since both MAC 1 and The Light Plant respond to all multiple alarms (at least when it is dark), wouldn't this concept work in Cincinnati? <br> Baltimore ran rigs that were called Airflex units. They carried air, floodlights, and hi ex foam.
Also, would it be pratical, or even necessary, to send MAC 1 on all working fires so that additional air bottles would be immediately available for the companies on the scene?
So let's hear it folks. Good idea or go back to where I came from!

I didn't mention in the first post, but my concept would be that this unit would have a person permanently assigned to it.....

It sounds like a good idea to me. There are many larger departments running a single apparatus titled Air & Light Unit. It could be an all purpose air & light truck which carries Air Bottles, Cascade System, Air Compressor, Light Tower, Generator(s), Portable Lighting, etc. Kinda similar to a High Rise Unit as well.

Doesnt sound like a bad idea but in the short time I've been on (@5yrs) and also having taking the light plant to the several fires. I dont see a use for it. 1, by the time you get to a multi alarm your parked too far away to use it. 2nd, trucks today have plenty of lights on them. I'm not saying get rid of it, there has been use for it at large incidents. (tornados of 98) It did help when I was on T17 to make some fires, and depending on your officer that can be good thing.

If this was a staffed unit, it could be dispatched with the R.I.T. This may increase it's effectiveness. Why not put a small rubber boat (like FDNY TAC units have) for rapid response to drownings and body recovery on the Ohio River also.

Good idea! Staff that rig & let it roll with the RIT Complement.
For Water Rescue runs, would the boat be towed or is there a way to place it on the apparatus?

The Tactical Support Units in NYC carry an inflated outboard powered rescue boat on a rack over the truck or stacked on the rear of the utility style truck. They also have a 25-kilowatt electrical generator, winch, 30 foot teloscopic light tower, crane on the rear, and other miscellaneous hydrolic tools, collapse equipment, and Haz-mat equipment. I've seen the light plant out pulling the fire safety trailer. Is this the official function of that unit? Also, where is the trailer stored?

The Light Plant is used to tow the Safe House. It's also used to tow the Trench Collapse trailer & probably anything else that can be towed.
The Light Plant was busy towing the Safe House when the construction worker was trapped in a trench collapse in Walnut Hills recently. I'm not sure what arrangements were made to get the Trench Collapse trailer to the scene.
The Safe House, which is kept at E-18, was originally towed with the Fuel Truck. The Fuel Truck now tows the Bomb trailer. I just hope we don't have a bomb incident & an extra alarm fire(where companies need fuel) at the same time!

As Truck 14 staffs MAC 1 on multiple alarms who will be staffing MAC 1 after T-14 is disbanded?

Is MAC 1 now designated MAC 14? Also, still wondering about the question in my last post in this thread... Steve

If I understand correctly there is no longer a MAC 1 that is an air bottle supply truck. The former MAC 1 (1990 Summit) is now the spare squad and is no longer the hazmat. The new hazmat truck that is at the 32's house and is staffed by Squad 9 has been given what as a radio designation?
