Holy _____________ !!! Where Do I start? ?? This is History. Excuse me if my entry here is "off the wall" ....... BUT........ Where do we start? ? Topics: 1.Queen City Barrell and their history of fires and potential danger for closeby residents! 2.What companies made the run on each alarm!?!?!? 3.What other communities responded? (Delhi, Green Township, Springdale, who else?) 4. Let's give the firefighters a HAND!!!! 5. "How does this fire rank compared to other multiple alarms......" Well, fellows, Let's have some input here! 6. What companies were dispatched over and above the Fifth ??

I think this will rank as the fire of this decade, if not the century. Here's why. The complex around Gest Street is the second largest (third?) intact industrial grouping of buildings in the city. Spring Grove Avenue around Juergens is probably the largest with the old Powell Valve buildings on Colerain close behind. Actually, it could be a toss up between the 3 locations.
Anyway, my point is that there just aren't that many areas that large in size that could burn, unless there was a major conflagration Downtown.
I'll try and get a copy of the alarm assignments and post them here. Above the 5th alarm I heard Engines 50 and 9 assigned and Trucks 19 and 2 (Truck 2 was released quickly).
From suburban departments there were 2 engines from Delhi Township and 1 from Green Township dispatched. Those are all I heard, but my radio was cutting out. There was at least one suburban company (Tower 84 - Reading) moved into the city, first to the 2's house and then to the 14's.
I don't know which department had the Sutphen tower there. Dave Jones (District5 here) was out the door early so I imagine he was able to get some decent photos.
Just stopping this fire was an incredible task. From the aerial views that Channel 5 was broadcasting around 7:30 I thought they were going to loose a couple of blocks before the fire was stopped.

I just heard Engine 47 (Golf Manor) take a run on Main Street, so I guessing that they're running from the 3's.

Greetings!
Having responded with the Salvation Army canteen, I was told 11 different agencies responded. The ones that I can remember off the top of my head are: Green Twp, Delhi Twp, Miami Twp, Anderson Twp, Springdale & Golf Manor. I apologize for not being able to name the others, it was QUITE busy from where we were posted at Evans & Police Academy Dr.

The main fire building for the 5 Alarm + was the massive 3-4 story warehouse at 809 Evans Street. There are several other buildings in the complex, incuding 1913 and 1937 South Street. Some past incidents at Queen City Barrel Company at South and Summer Streets include: 2 Alarm- February 28, 1993 ($350,000 loss)
2 Alarm- January 18, 1998 ($250,00 loss) 1937 South Street

Good to hear from all of you. I'd really like to hear the alarm assignments on this one. Steve, you mentioned T-19. Around 8:00 PM, I was driving up Warsaw or Glenway taking various views and I saw T-19 pulling OUT of the driveway of the Bible College. I figured it was probably a smoke run from the five alarm, and that T-19 was covering the area. Anyway, the exact assignments would be interesting. I sure this location is what they used to call a "two truck box". Any more news from anyone on this?
