I apologize if this kind of request is not appropriate here. I'm looking for information on my great grandfather who (according to family stories) was a lifetime career fireman. He was of German descent and probably lived near Sycamore St. I'd like to know how long he served, what he did, which station, his home address, etc.
I have a photo of him with a substantial moustache, but he's not in uniform.
BTW, I spent much of my childhood living (1940s-early 1950s) across the street from the firehouse at McMillan & Copelen. I remember the VE Day celebration in front of the station.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi Cincysue,
I checked the 1881 annual report that I have and I could not find any information regarding Mr. Woertz. He would have only been 22 at the time so he probably wasn't on the department then. If I dig anything up I'll post it here.
Take care,
Steve

The 1914 - 1917 reports show a "Regular Fireman" with the name of William Worst. Those are the only other reports that I have available....

Thank you, Steve! I think the relevant dates for his service are probably somewhere between your two references. Probably between 1885, when he would have been 25 and 1912 when he would have been 59. It was a good idea to check alternate spellings of the name. Maybe you'll find additional resources...and I'll get lucky! I'll keep checking back. Your website is fascinating.
