I heard some comment that the 52's current rig is out of service due to problems with the cab mounting. Can anyone confirm this and give a more detailed description as to what the exact problem is?

The city web site is advertising a bid for repairs to a Spartan chassis. Since the 52's have the only Spartan in the fleet it must be for them.
I'm still wondering what the exact problem (and solution) are.

I'm not sure of the exact problem with the 52's Spartan, but we have one at my department (ATFD) and have had cab-mount issues as well. As I understand it, the problem was at the rear shackles where the tilt-cab is secured. Like I said, this is our experience. CFD may have something else going on.

Chatted with the 52's about a month ago while doing medic school time with R-14. The unit has many broken welds all through the truck, including in the box. The 52's think it is junk. The story that they tell is that the flat bed driver which took the truck back to the manufacturer said this is a common problem. Apparently, this was the 1st heavy rescue the manufacturer built.

I saw Squad 52 today on the wreck on I-275 near Sutton. They're back in the Ferrara. Don't know whether it's completely fixed or not.

I was told that a new apparatus will be bid for Squad 52. Any ideas as to when this will happen? Seagrave builds really nice heavy rescues now...
Solid RED would be a nice color for the squad!

I don't know the answer to either of those. I was told that the last edition of "The Relay Line" indicated that the apparatus was to be replaced. C.F.D. is reportedly having a major budget cut for 2004 so that may effect purchasing.
