CINCINNATI FIRE DEPARTMENT APPOINTS RONNISE HANDY AS ITS FIRST EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Cincinnati, Ohio--The Cincinnati Fire Department today announced the appointment of Ronnise Handy as Executive Officer of the Cincinnati Fire Department effective July 16, 2007. Most recently, Ms. Handy has been the Finance Director for the Village of Woodlawn.
As Executive Officer, Ms. Handy will provide the fiscal oversight, planning, and management of the Fire Department's $69 million annual budget. She will serve as a human resource liaison internally and with the City Human Resource Department. Additionally, Ms Handy will represent the Department with other fire departments, public organizations, outside agencies and organizations on special events and projects, and act as an alternate for the Chief at various meetings. This position, a first in the Cincinnati Fire Department’s history, was one of the recommendations of the Tri-Data Consultants on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Fire Department.
“Ronnise has experience and dedication of a public servant to help this Department operate at its best,” said Fire Chief Robert Wright.
For the past six years, she served as Finance Director for the Village of Woodlawn and from 1999 to 2001; she served in the same position for the Village of Lockland. Additionally, she worked for the City of Cincinnati 15 years ago as a Management Analyst in the Department of Budget and Evaluations.
Ms. Handy received a Master of Business Administration Degree from Xavier University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ms. Handy was born in New York City, and raised in Prince George's County, Maryland. She comes from a family that has a solid history of public service, in that her mother retired as Administrative Officer of International Activities for Smithsonian Institution, and her father retired from the District of Columbia.
She resides in Wyoming, where she volunteers as Treasurer for the Wyoming Youth Services Bureau, Community Advisory Member for the Wyoming Board of Education, and a member of the Junior Women’s Club. She is also a member of Delta Theta Sorority and the Government Finance Officers Association.
