1 Alarm Fire 638 Forest Avenue (Avondale) Date: Dec 1, 2007 Time: 08:51 Hours
District Fire Chief David Collini reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred at 638 Forest Avenue, which is located in Avondale. On Saturday 12/1/07 at 8:51 AM a neighbor knocked on the door of Cincinnati Fire Station Engine 32 reporting a structure fire happening two doors from the station. Fire companies from that station called into fire dispatch and reported that there was a working fire with smoke and flames showing on the second floor of a three-story multi-dwelling. Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and preformed roof ventilation, which brought the fire under control in less than 45 minutes. Upon arriving the fire units also conducted a primary search for occupants, and discovered that all occupants safely evacuated, even though there were no working smoke alarms in the structures. One dog was rescued by firefighters, another dog perished on the structure’s second floor. Fire Loss is placed at $60,000; the fire cause is undetermined and is being investigated by a Cincinnati Fire Investigator. No injuries occurred. Two families were displaced from their homes; the American Red Cross is assisting the families totaling four adults and three children. The public is to be reminded to check the batteries and condition of their smoke alarms. Smoke alarms save lives and they are relatively inexpensive. 1 Alarm Fire 4831 Winneste Avenue, Winton Terrace Date: 12-1-07 Time: Aprox. 21:30 Hours
District Three Chief Robert McWilliams reported on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 4831 Winneste Avenue in Winton Terrace. Upon arrival firefighters reported a working fire on the second floor of a two-story multi- dwelling; fire was located in a second floor bedroom and was quickly brought under control. All occupants were out safely upon Fire Department arrival. One adult and three children were displaced from their home and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Fire damage was contained to the second floor and is estimated at $15,000. The cause is undetermined and is currently being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit. 1 Alarm Fire: 3412 Clifton Avenue, Clifton Date: 12-2-07 Time: 0900 Hours
District Chief Anson Turley reported on a fire that occurred in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Clifton. On Sunday 12/2/07 at 09:00 AM, the Cincinnati Fire Department was dispatched to a building fire at 3412 Clifton Avenue. Upon their arrival they began work to extinguish a fire on the third floor of a three-story vacant structure. The building was previously used as a funeral home but had been abandoned for three years. The building’s owner scheduled the building for demolition, but it appears someone was living in its top floor. Even though the solid construction of the building and its slate roof made entry to the fire floor and vertical ventilation of the structure quite difficult; it took 28 firefighters 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. 2 Alarm Fire: 3453 Greenlawn Avenue, Evanston Date: 12-2-07 Time: 1831 Hours
District Four Fire Chief Keith Burkert reported that Cincinnati Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire that happened at 6:31 PM on December 2, 2007. The fire occurred at 3453 Greenlawn Avenue in Evanston. First arriving fire companies found heavy fire in a rear bedroom on the second floor of a three- story occupied single family home. Fire units made an aggressive interior attack on the rapidly spreading fire. The fire was contained to the rear of the home. One adult occupant escaped unharmed when children alerted him that his home was on fire. It took 50 firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. 1 Alarm Fire: 6164 Ottawa Avenue, Saylor Park Date: 12-2-07 Time: 20:57 Hours
District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred in Saylor Park at 6164 Ottawa Avenue.
At 8:57 pm on 12/2/07 Cincinnati Firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 6164 Ottawa Avenue. Upon arrival they found a two-story frame dwelling fully involved in fire. Firefighters began defensive operations due to the large amount of fire showing upon arrival; fire crews brought the fire under control in 45 minutes.
The building suffered heavy fire damage and is a complete loss. No one was home at the time of the fire; the American Red Cross is assisting a woman and her son, who have been displaced from their home due to the fire.
There was no sound of working smoke alarms; fire loss is listed at $50,000. No firefighters were injured. Firefighters are still on the scene. The fire cause is undetermined and is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit.

1 Alarm Fire: 620 Lincoln Avenue, Walnut Hills Date: December 5, 2007 Time: 2127 Hours
District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred in Walnut Hills at 620 Lincoln Avenue. At 9:27 pm on 12/5/07 Cincinnati Firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 620 Lincoln Avenue. Upon arrival at the three-story brick apartment building they found smoke coming from an apartment on the structure’s third floor. Firefighters forced entry into the apartment and quickly knocked down a fire that was in its living room. Firefighters found one male victim inside and removed him to an awaiting rescue unit that transported him to University Hospital. His condition is not known at this time. The apartment suffered moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage. All other occupants were allowed to return to their apartments. There was a smoke alarm in the apartment, whether it operated is uncertain. The fire loss is listed at $5,000. No firefighters were injured; they are still on the scene. 2 Alarm Fire: 2527 Seegar Avenue btn Baltimore & Vinton (Fairmount) Date: 12-7-2007 Time: 16:56 hrs
This is District Three Chief Robert McWilliams reporting on a two-alarm fire, which occurred at 2527 Seegar Avenue in Fairmount. The fire happened on 12/7/07 at 4:56 PM.
Upon arrival firefighters were confronted with a one-story single family dwelling that was fully involved in fire. A defensive fire attack was initiated and a second alarm fire response was requested for manpower. The main body of fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Over 40 firefighters responded to the incident and remained on the scene for several hours.
The building’s occupants were all out safely upon Fire Department arrival, but one resident was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained due to attempting to fight the fire. Two adults were displaced from their home and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Three family pets were lost due to fire; a fourth pet survived.
The fire was started by food left unattended on a stove, and it caused extensive damage, which is estimated at $80,000. The homeowners attempting to extinguish the fire and no smoke alarms being present in the home contributed to the delay in the initial call to the Fire Department.

1 Alarm Fire: 3832 Hillside Avenue, Riverside-Sedamville Date: 12-8-07 Time: 1939 Hours
District Chief Howard Reed from District One of the Cincinnati Fire Department reported on a one-alarm that occurred on 12/8/07 at 7:39 P.M. The fire occurred in a vacant two-story frame single-family structure located at 3832 Hillside Avenue in Riverside-Sedamville.
Upon firefighters arrival they found a frame structure fully engulfed in flames. Due to the structure being fully involved firefighters used a defensive operation to bring the incident under control, doing so in less then 30 minutes.
Firefighters are still at the scene at this present time extinguishing hot spot. The fire caused approximately $30,000 damage to the vacant dwelling. There were no reports of civilians or firefighters being injured.
Due to the suspicious nature of this fire, a fire investigator was called to the scene; a preliminary investigation of the fire has begun to determine its cause.

2 Alarm Fire: 1241 Groesbeck Road btn Staint Elmo & Kenneth (College Hill) Date: 12/14/2007 Time: 17:47 hrs
This is District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reporting on a two-alarm fire that occurred in College Hill at 1241 Groesbeck Road.
At 5:47 pm on 12/14/07 Cincinnati Firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 1241 Groesbeck Road. Upon arrival at the three-story brick apartment building they found heavy fire coming from the building’s apartment 8, located on the structure’s first floor.
While firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire; it became known that several occupants were trapped by heavy smoke conditions on the structure’s third floor.
Thereafter the Incident Commander called for a second alarm fire response due to the size of the building and the trapped individuals. Soon thereafter members of Fire Ladder Company 20 assisted three occupants to safety; the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
Apartment 8 on the building’s first floor suffered heavy damage with moderate smoke damage occurring to two apartments on the structure’s second floor.
The Fire Department response occurred after a working smoke alarm was heard by an occupant and he called 911; no one was home in apartment 8 when the fire started. Three families were displaced from their homes and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
No occupants or firefighters were injured. The fire loss is estimated at $75,000. Firefighters are still on the scene. The fire cause is undetermined and is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit.

1 Alarm Fire: 1823 Westwood Avenue x Van Hart (South Fairmount) Date: 12-15-2007 Time: 13:45 hrs
This is District Chief Ronald Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred in the Fairmount community on 12/15/07 at 1:45 PM.
Fire companies responded to a report of a building fire at 1823 Westwood Avenue and upon arrival found heavy smoke and fire on the second floor of a two-story frame dwelling. Fire companies made a quick interior attack on the fire and brought it under control within about 15 minutes.
The tenant and owner were not home at the time of the fire; no civilians were injured. The fire was confined to the second floor with extension into false spaces of the ceiling and walls.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist two adults with housing. The fire cause is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit and is listed as undetermined.
The fire loss is estimated at $50,000. It is undetermined if smoke alarms were working at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to firefighters.

2 Alarm Fire: 1023 Cutter Street btn Court & Elizabeth (West End/Betts-Longworth) Date: 12-15-2007 Time: 22:20 hrs
This is District Chief Ronald Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a two-alarm fire that occurred in the West End on 12/15/07 at 10:20 PM. Fire units responded to 1023 Cutter Street for a report of a building fire.
Fire companies found heavy fire coming from all three floors of an owner occupied three-story condominium. Due to the volume of fire a second alarm fire response was requested. Fire units made a defensive attack to extinguish the bulk of the fire and then entered the building to finalize extinguishment.
Two occupants, a father and three year old child that were in the condo escaped from the second floor balcony with the help of neighbors before the arrival of the fire companies, those individuals were not injured.
There were working smoke alarms and they were responsible for alerting the owners of the fire. The American Red Cross was requested to assist four adults and four children from two different condos.
Approximately 40 firefighters were involved during the incident and were on the scene for about two hours and 30 minutes. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The loss to building and its contents is estimated at $300,000. Until the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit completes its fire investigation the cause is being listed as undetermined.

1 Alarm Fire, 9501 Constitution Drive, Williamsburg Apartments, (Hartwell) Date: 12-18-07 Time: 05:00 Hours
District Three-Fire Chief Anson Turley reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred on December 18, 2007 at 5:00 AM, at 9501 Constitution Drive in the Williamsburg Apartment Complex.
When fire units arrived, they found heavy smoke on the second floor of a large two-story frame dwelling. An aggressive interior attack on the fire brought it under control within 10 minutes.
Twenty-five firefighters remained on the scene for over an hour and a half extinguishing the fire and overhauling. No one was at home at the time of the fire. The residence had a hard-wired smoke alarm that failed to activate for an unknown reason.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Fire damage is estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit.

2 Alarm, 2489 Gate Street (Westwood) Date: 12-23-07 Time: 18:20 Hours
District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reported on a two-alarm fire that occurred in Westwood at 2489 Gate Street. At 6:20 pm firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 2489 Gate Street. Upon arrival they found medium smoke coming from the second floor of a two-story frame dwelling. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire, which was located in a bedroom and brought it under control in a short time. A firefighter on Fire Engine Company 35 tripped and fell striking his head on a bedpost, knocking him unconscious. A May Day was declared for a distressed firefighter and a second alarm fire response was requested. Firefighters quickly removed the injured firefighter to safety and once outside he regained consciousness. He was placed in a rescue unit and transported to University Hospital for evaluation. He was later released and sent home for the night. It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. The bedroom suffered heavy fire damage with smoke damage to the structure’s second floor. The American Red Cross is assisting a woman and her four children with housing due to their being displaced. No civilians were injured There was working a smoke alarm in the home; fire loss is listed at $15,000. A 13 year old playing with a lighter caused the fire. 1 Alarm Fire: 1052 Delhi Road x Rosemont (Price Hill) Date: 12/25/2007 Time: 11:33 hrs
This is District Fire Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 1052 Delhi Road on December 25, 2007 (Christmas Day).
At 11:33 AM fire companies responded to a report of a building on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed smoke showing at the second floor level of a two-story single-family dwelling.
An interior attack on the fire was initiated along with a primary search of the entire structure. A fire in a second floor front bedroom was quickly brought under control within a short period of time; the occupants of the structure exited the building safely prior to fire companies’ arrival.
The cause of the fire was an “electrical malfunction” in a light switch located in the front bedroom on the dwelling’s second floor. The occupants witnessed smoke and sparks emitting from the light switch and initiated the 911- call. The fire loss is estimated at $10,000. There were smoke alarms present and sounding.
There were 26 fire personnel utilized at the incident. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

At 2:02 AM fire companies responded to a report of a building on fire. On arrival firefighters confirmed heavy fire on the second floor of a two-story, single family attached triplex unit.
An interior attack on the fire was initiated along with a search of the entire structure. The fire was quickly brought under control. The occupant of the structure exited the building unharmed prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and is being investigated. The fire loss is estimated at $30,000. It has not been determined if smoke alarms were present and working.
