1 Alarm Fire: 6071 Hillside Avenue btn Dart & Bender(Saylor Park) Date: 08/14/2007 Time: 10:00 hrs
This is District Chief Ronald Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred on 8/14/07 at 10:00 AM, in the community of Sayler Park.
Fire companies responded to a report of a building fire at 6071 Hillside Avenue. Upon arriving, fire companies reported a fire in a vacant one-story dwelling. Fire units quickly extinguished the fire, and were on the scene for approximately one hour.
The fire cause is being investigated by Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit, and is listed as suspicious. Loss is estimated at $5,000.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters; there were no working smoke alarms in the vacant structure.

1 Alarm Fire: 3241 Berwyn Avenue (Oakley) Date: 08/14/2007 Time: 11:31 PM
District Chief Paul Weber of the Cincinnati Fire Department reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred on 8/14/07 at 11:31pm, in the community of Oakley.
Fire companies responded to a report of a building fire on 3241 Berwyn Avenue near Ballard. Upon arriving, fire companies reported heavy fire in a two-story unoccupied dwelling. The fire extended throughout the entire structure and was impinging on a neighboring residence located at 3237 Berwyn Avenue. A quick attack brought the main body of fire under control, minimized the damage to the exposure building. Fire companies are still on the scene at this time.
The fire cause is being investigated by Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit. Fire loss to the building of origin is $100,000 and the exposure building is estimated at $5,000. 1 Alarm Fire: 2188 Grand Avenue (South Fairmount) Date: 08/15/2007 Time: 12:30 Hours
District 3 Fire Chief Roy Winston reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred on August 15, 2007 at
At 12:30 pm, fire companies were dispatched to 2188 Grand Avenue to investigate a report of smoke coming from a bedroom. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed smoke coming from the second floor of the structure. The )fire companies conducted an interior attack on the fire. In addition they searched for any potential victims.
The home contained a working smoke alarm on its first floor, and all the residents escaped without incident. The fire took 22 firefighters approximately 15 minutes to extinguish. Firefighters were on the scene for two hours.
The damage estimate is $15,000, the fire cause is undetermined. The fire is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced family, which included one adult and two children.

1 Alarm Fire: 2239 Fulton Avenue (Walnut Hills) Date: 08/15/2007 Time: 13:19 hrs
This is District 3 Fire Chief Roy Winston reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred on August 15, 2007 at 2239 Fulton Avenue located in Walnut Hills.
At 1:19 pm, fire companies were dispatched to 2239 Fulton Avenue at Kreger Printing for a report of smoke coming from the structure’s roof. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed smoke coming from that area. They also discovered that the fire was the result of an arc coming from a 220 electric line coming into the building.
Fire companies requested Duke Energy respond to assist with shutting off building’s electric. After the power source was removed the fire was quickly extinguished. The fire took 26 firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish; firefighters were on the scene for one hour.
The fire damage estimate is $10,000. (The) cause (was) a short circuit from the electric line coming into the structure.

2 Alarm Fire: 3983-3981 Yearling Court btn Mustang Dr & Dead End (Westwood) Date: 8/19/07 Time: 12:29 hrs
This is District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reporting on a two-alarm fire that occurred in Westwood at 3983 Yearling Court. At 12:29 pm on 8/19/07 firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 3983 Yearling Court, the location of a structure that housed three two-story frame townhouses.
Upon arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the building, and it was extending into the building’s second floor. After entering the structure firefighters reported that the fire had entered the attic and was extending to the townhouse at 3981.
A second fire alarm response was requested due to fire and the possibility of it extending throughout the structure’s attic. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and confined it to the two town homes.
The unit located at 3983 Yearling Court sustained heavy damage and the one located at 3981 Yearling sustained moderate damage to its second floor.
Damage to 3983 Yearling is estimated at $50,000 and 3981 Yearling is estimated at $15,000. There were no civilian injuries,one firefighter suffered a minor cut to his hand and was treated at the scene and returned to work.
The fire started when a nine-year old playing with a lighter in front of 3983 Yearling Court ignited a bush. The bush went up quickly due to the dry conditions and thereafter the building’s siding ignited then entered the building.
Smoke alarms were sounding and alerted occupants; two families were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, a total of two adults and 6 children.
Forty-two firefighters were used to battle this blaze.

1 Alarm Fire: 1719 Vine Street (Over The Rhine) Date: 08/30/07 Time: 17:25 hrs
This is District Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 1719 Vine Street in Over-the Rhine. At 5:25 pm fire companies were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a structure.
Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed smoke showing on the second and fourth floors of a four-story brick residential building. An interior attack on the fire was initiated along with a primary search of the entire structure. Initially, there was one small fire discovered on the structure’s second floor, which was quickly extinguished. Soon thereafter, firefighters located several other small fires within the vacant four-story structure; all were extinguished within a short period of time. A primary search of the structure confirmed an all clear.
A fire investigator was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The fire cause is “undetermined” pending further investigation.
The structure is vacant, and there were several separate origins of fire identified, which makes the fire incident “suspicious in nature”. Fire loss is estimated at $5,000.
There were 28 fire personnel utilized at the incident. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Fire personnel are still on the scene as this media release is being disseminated.

1 Alarm Fire: 1885 Provincial Court (Fairmount) Date: 08/30/07 Time: 19:27 hrs This is District Three Fire Chief Randal T. Freel Sr reporting on a structure fire, which happened at 7:27 PM on August 30 2007. The fire occurred at 1885 Provincial Court located in the Fairmount. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed a working fire in a two-story complex. The fire crews reported smoke showing from the structure’s second floor. An aggressive interior attack on the fire was initiated, along with a primary search of the apartment of fire origin. The fire was brought under control very quickly because of the aggressive firefighting effort. All tenants were able to evacuate the building. No firefighters were injured as a result of the incident. The fire cause is undetermined and is being investigated by the Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit. The estimated fire loss is set at $ 20,000. Fire companies were on the scene approximately two hours; about 25 fire personnel were used to handle the incident.

1 Alarm Fire: 1631 Hoffner Street (Northside) Date: 09/01/07 Time: 10:05 hrs This is District Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 1631 Hoffner Street on September 1, 2007. At 10:05 am fire companies were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from an upper floor of a building, which is utilized as a “boarding house”. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed smoke showing from the second and third floor windows of a three-story wood frame structure. An interior attack on the fire was initiated along with a primary search of the structure. The main body of fire was located on the structure’s second floor, within a short period of time it was extinguished. Windows were opened and ventilation fans set up to assist with ventilation of the smoke filled building. The primary search confirmed all occupants exited safely. A fire investigator was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The fire cause is “undetermined” pending further investigation. Fire loss was estimated at $5,000. There were 28 fire personnel used at the incident. There were no injuries to civilians or fire fighters; Fire personnel are still on the fire scene.

1 Alarm Fire: 855 William Howard Taft Road X Gilbert Ave "Wendy's Restaurant" (Walnut Hills) Date: 9/9/2007 Time: 09:35 hrs
This is District Three-Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred in Walnut Hills at 855 William Howard Taft Road. At 9:35 am on Sunday 9/9/07 firefighters responded to a report of the Wendy’s Restaurant located at Taft and Gilbert Avenue being on fire. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the restaurant. The fire was located in the awning that goes around the exterior of the structure, and it extended into the ceiling area of the restaurant. Acting District Chief John Klosterman directed fire companies to employ a cautious interior attack on the fire because of the heavy equipment on the structure’s roof, and the susceptibility of the roof. There was a possibility of the roof failing early under heavy heat conditions. The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes, but it caused heavy damage to the front section of the roof and the dining area. The fire loss is listed at $250,000. No firefighters or occupants were injured. The fire cause is still under investigation.

1 Alarm fire: 5638 Abbotsford Street, Kennedy Heights Date: 9-15-07 Time: 17:35 Hours
District One Chief Anson Turley reported on a fire, which occurred at 5638 Abbotsford Street located in Kennedy Heights. At 5:35 PM fire companies were dispatched to the above 5638 Abbotsford Street for a report of a kitchen on fire. When the first fire company arrived they found light smoke showing from the first floor of a two-story frame single-family dwelling. The fire, which had started in the kitchen, was quickly extinguished. The occupants of the structure a woman and her two small children escaped without injury. There was a working smoke alarm in the kitchen, which alerted the family thereafter they escape. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage has been set at $15,000. 1 alarm fire: 420 Ezzard Charles Drive, Taft High School Date: 9-14-07 Time: 1405 Hours
District Chief David Collini reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred at 420 Ezzard Charles Drive, the location of Taft High School.
At approximately 2:05 P.M. on Friday 9/14/07, fire companies responded to a report of an alarm sounding. Upon arriving fire crews found light smoke coming from the rear of the school, near the football locker room.
The entire student body along with staff & teachers were safely evacuated to the outdoor stadium area. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Twenty-seven firefighters thereafter strategically place exhaust fans in positions throughout the school, opened windows and also scuttle openings on the roof to achieve optimum smoke removal, which prove to be the primary challenge that the firefighters faced. The fire is listed as undetermined and is being investigated.
On a sad note all of school’s football uniforms were either destroyed or suffered smoke damage: leaving the team without uniforms to wear for Friday night’s game with Withrow High School. Another local high school (Colerain H.S.) is allowing the team to borrow uniforms until their uniforms are replaced.

1 Alarm Fire: 4043 Akochia, Upper Price Hill Date: 9-16-07 Time: 21:34 Hours
District Chief Ron Davis of the Cincinnati Fire Department reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred in Upper Price Hill at 4043 Akochia on 9/16/07 at 9:34 PM. Fire companies responded to report of smoke coming from a single-family dwelling.
Upon arrival fire companies found heavy smoke coming from a one-story dwelling. Fire units gained entry into the building and discovered a fire in the kitchen area. They quickly extinguished the fire and searched for possible victims but found no one.
Fire companies were on the scene about one hour and 30 minutes; the cause of the fire was food left unattended on the stove. 1 Alarm Fire: 3443 Stettinius Avenue, (Hyde Park) Date: 9/18/07 Time: 0928 Hours District Chief Howard Reed from District One of the Cincinnati Fire Department, reported on a one-alarm fire the occurred at 3443 Stettinius Avenue, which is located in Hyde Park. This incident occurred today, Tuesday 9/18/07 at 09:28 AM in the kitchen of a three-story frame single-family dwelling. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire bringing it under control in less then ten minutes. The fire was confined to the kitchen with smoke damage throughout the entire structure. A nanny returning home from taking a child to school discovered the fire. She entered the dwelling and heard smoke alarms sounding; thereafter she called and reported the fire to Fire dispatcher. There were no reports of civilian or firefighter injuries; the family dog was a rescue from the structure’s second floor. District One Fire Chief Steven Phillips reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred in Mount Auburn on 9/19/07, just before 9:00 P.M.
An employee of a neighborhood store smelled smoke and discovered a fire at the store, located at 210 Dorchester Street.
There were no patrons inside; all occupants safely exited the building. The fire heavily damaged the business. No firefighters or civilians were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage is estimated at $50,000.

1 Alarm Fire: 3305 Augusta Avenue, Westwood Cross Streets North Bend Road & Boudinot Ave. Date: 9-20-07 Time: 18:45 Hours
District Fire Chief Gary Scott reported on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 3305 Augusta Avenue on September 20, 2007. At 6:45 pm fire companies were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a house. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed smoke showing at the roof’s eaves in a one-story multi-dwelling. An interior attack on the fire was initiated along with a primary search of the structure. The main body of fire was located in the building’s first floor front apartment and quickly extinguished within a short period of time. Fire and smoke damage was confined to the apartment of fire origin. Primary search confirmed all occupants had exited safely. A fire investigator was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. At this time, the fire cause is ‘undetermined” pending further investigation. Fire loss was set at $15,000; smoke detectors were sounding within the three-family apartment dwelling. The American Red Cross was called to assist with the displacement of two adults.
