At 6:08 pm firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at 2696 Fleetwood Avenue. Upon arrival, they reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement of a two-story single-family dwelling.
Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke conditions coming from an attached garage. The fire had extended from the garage to the basement area where it was contained and extinguished. The first and second floors sustained minor smoke damage.
The fire started when gasoline vapors from several gas cans in the garage built up to a combustible mixture in the air, found an ignition source and then ignited. The occupant said he was sitting on his front porch when it felt as if the house was lifted, the vapors ignited.
The force of the ignition blew out two garage doors and sent glass from the garage doors flying about 75 feet in the backyard.
All occupants escaped safely. 28 fire fighters were used to battle this blaze. All smoke alarms operated. Fire loss is estimated at $30,000. No fire fighters or occupants were injured. Occupants are staying with family.

This is District 3 Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reporting on a five-alarm fire, which occurred at 2721 McMicken Avenue on July 10, 2007.
At 8:00 pm, fire companies were dispatched to 2721 McMicken to investigate a report of a fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed fire and smoke coming from the structure located there. The fire companies began an offensive attack on the fire. Shortly after Chief Officer Randal Freel first arrived, he requested that additional firefighters be sent to the incident, and ordered all fire units to evacuate the structure because of fire and structural conditions.
The fire had spread to adjoining structures which involved five buildings used by the Cincinnati Costume Company. A third, fourth and fifth alarm fire response was requested by Fire Command Staff.
The fire was labor intensive, requiring 78 firefighters to respond to the incident, along with support staff and other supporting agencies such as the Cincinnati Building and Inspection Department. The Fire and Building Departments worked together to bring in a backhoe to clear out debris to extinguish smoldering fire in three of the buildings that were completely involved in fire.
There were seven structures that were impacted by the fire. The largest of the structures, a large three story brick building, sustained minimum damage because of fire fighting efforts.
The Cincinnati Costume Company had a copious amount of combustibles in its buildings. Many of the costumes were reported as being created twenty years ago.
Firefighters were on the scene for 12 hours and twenty minutes.
