FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cincinnati Firefighters graduates from the
University of Cincinnati's 33rd graduating class of paramedics.
On the Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 7:00 PM, four members of the
Cincinnati Fire Department will graduate from the University of Cincinnati's 33rd graduating class of paramedics. The graduation will take place in the University Of Cincinnati-Raymond Walters College's Muntz Hall, which is located at 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash, Ohio 45236
Over the past ten months, the students have attended 105 classes and 18 lab sessions, taken 10 written exams, and performed 150 clinical hours in area hospitals.
In addition, they have ridden on paramedic transport units for over 300 hours and have provided Advanced Life Support to 32 critically ill or injured patients. They have also been trained in the procedures for helicopter patient transfer. These students are now certified in Advanced Life Support as well as Pediatric Advanced Life Support. They have all earned 45 college credits toward an EMS Associate's Degree.
The Paramedic Education Program is designed to prepare men and women as professional members of the health care team. Paramedics practice the art and science of out-of-hospital medicine in conjunction with physicians' medical direction. Through the performance of assessments and treatments, paramedics have the ability to identify and modify illness and injury risks, provide acute illness and injury care, and contribute to treatment of chronic conditions and community health monitoring.
Upon successful testing later this week by the National Accrediting
Registry, the following members will become certified as Paramedics and will join the ranks of the city's 180 cross trained dual purpose
Fire-Medics: Michael Carey, Perry Herbert, Falencia Jackson-Frazier, and Jeffrey Neal.
Along with their 660 fellow firefighters, who are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians, this highly skilled workforce will respond to over 50,000 calls for emergency medical help from the people of Cincinnati during the next year.
