Hi,
I had heard rumors a few months back regarding the creation of a new fire company, Squad 1. This company was to be a combination training and technical (roof - trench) rescue. The last I heard is that this concept has been scrapped. Anyone know the story?
Thanks,
Steve

My only questions are where will the new company be housed and will the desigantion be Squad 1?
FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS
OFFICE OF THE FIRE CHIEF
GENERAL ORDER # 91
TO: ALL PERSONNEL
ISSUED: November 4, 2005
SUBJECT: Specialized Rescue Squads
The Cincinnati Fire Department will be reorganizing Squad 52 and creating an additional squad company. The goal of this reorganization is to improve the Department’s response to special operation’s and emergencies as well as staffing the Fire Training Bureau with a sufficient number of personnel to accomplish the training needs of the Fire Department as economically as possible. These companies will be staffed with members of Squad 52 and a newly formed squad company. Truck 14 will be transformed into the new squad company and relocated.
Members of Squad 52 and the new squad company will be required to be State of Ohio Certified Fire Instructors (State Law requires 5 years fire service experience), Hazardous Materials Technicians, and Technical Rescue Technicians (BERT or new CFD Rescue Tech. Class).
The members of these units will be tasked with recruit training, department-wide daily training, in-service training as well as increased emergency response for fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials, and WMD incidents. These will be very active companies. When implemented, current heavy rescue response criteria will be changing. One squad will respond to all one-alarm fires within the city with a priority of interior search and rescue.
Any member interested in transferring to these specialized units should submit a Form-24 transfer request and attach a detailed resume outlining your qualifications for this specialized company by November 25, 2005. All members transferring to these companies will serve a probationary period and will be required to sign a five-year commitment to the company.
Any questions regarding these new squads should be directed to District Chief Thomas Lakamp. (7503)

I'll be surprised if the new company will be designated "Squad-1". Falling under the current county numbering system, the 1's would be considered Addyston. And I that poses an interesting question. Since Addyston has more or less disbanded their department, could CFD request to use that number?
Something to think about...

I have been informed that the radio designations for CFD units will be changed to the following.
Rescue Units will be Medics Ambulances will be Squads Squads will be Rescues
The designation for Squad 52 will be chnaged to Rescue 14. The new Rescue will be temporarily located at Engine 32. After the 9's new house opens the Rescue will be moved there and will be Rescue 9.
If anyone knows when the radio designation changes will take place, please let us know.

So I guess this means somebody will have to change the lettering above Rescue 46's bay door?
