First arriving companies encountered heavy smoke from the rear of a large commercial building, and subsequently fire coming through the roof. Companies initially had difficulty gaining access to the building due to the security features to the ingress and egress doors. A second alarm was struck due to the size of the building and the uncertainty of the fire load. Companies initiated aggressive, interior operations and the fire was brought under control in approximately fifteen minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the FIU. There were no smoke detectors or alarm systems operating in the building. There were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters and damage is estimated at $15,000. The Health Department has also been notified due to the building operating as a daily soup kitchen.

A total of 15-20 tenants were displaced. The University of Cincinnati is assisting with shelter for those individuals. One tenant was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One pet was found deceased in the fire apartment. The fire is under investigation by the Cincinnati Fire Department Investigation Unit. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
