Companies quickly advanced fire lines to the roof and extinguished a small fire of building materials.

School resource officer met with fire personnel upon arrival and described a suspicious package that arrived at the school. The school was evacuated and students/staff relocated by CPD with assistance of Metro buses. The bomb unit responded into the school to examine the package. The contents of the package were deemed to be non hazardous by the bomb unit. The matter was turned over to CPD for further investigation.

An aggressive interior attack quickly brought the fire under control in less than 10 minutes and contained the damage to the kitchen area. The cause of the fire was grease left unattended on the stove.

Upon arrival, companies found heavy smoke emitting from the attic of a single family dwelling. Companies conducted an aggressive interior attack, finding a large volume of fire in the finished attic area. A second alarm was transmitted, and companies were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. The occupants of the home were alerted of the fire by neighbors, and had exited the building prior to the arrival of the fire department. There were no civilian injuries, and one firefighter sustained a shoulder injury during firefighting operations. The cause of the fire was determined to be a lightning strike from storms passing through the area. The occupants will be staying with friends. The damage is estimated at $100,000.

The patient was transported by Cincinnati Fire Department paramedics to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Fire Department was on the scene for approximately 1 hour.

Michael.Zimmerman@Cincinnati-Oh.gov (513) 352-2333 INCIDENT ADDRESS: 2628 Montana Ave – Westwood neighborhood DISPATCH TIME: 1712 hrs LIST TYPE OF INCIDENT: Entrapment / citizen trapped under fallen tree RESPONSE EFFORTS AND # OF FIREFIGHTERS ON SCENE: 26 EQUIPMENT UTILIZED: Engines 35, 12, Truck 21, M-35, ALS-35, Heavy Rescue 9 & 14, Safety Officer 2, District 3, Special Ops Chief INJURIES TO CIVILIANS OR FIREFIGHTERS: 1 civilian DESCRIBE INCIDENT: Occupant of above address was cutting a large, mature tree on the hillside, an approximate setback of 500’ off Montana Ave. The weight of the tree during the cut caused it to snap and fall straight down, trapping the victim from the knee down under the trunk. Paramedics immediately started treating the patient while firefighters, utilizing hydraulic tools, saws and cribbing, were able to remove and lift the tree, approximately 20” in diameter, from the victims lower leg. Pt was packaged in a stokes basket and transported to University Hospital. Fire companies were on the scene for 45 minutes.
