Upon FD arrival, found small shed fully involved in fire with the fire beginning to extend to the siding of the house (about 8’ away). Extinguished fire in less than five minutes but moderate damage was done to the siding and soffit of the residence. The shed was a complete loss. The Fire Investigative Unit determined the cause to be heat too close to combustibles. The resident was burning scrap wood in a makeshift heater/cooking device in the shed. The fire escaped the heater and spread to the shed.

INJURIES TO CIVILIANS OR FIREFIGHTERS: None ESTIMATED DAMAGE: $35,000 CAUSE (IF KNOWN): Currently under investigation # OF PEOPLE DISPLACED: 2 SMOKE DETECTORS PRESENT: Yes BRIEFLY DESCRIBE INCIDENT: Upon arrival on scene firefighter’s encountered heavy smoke and fire showing from the outside rear of a 2-story brick townhome apartment building. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack to prevent the fire from spreading to the interior attic area and limited the amount of damage to the interior of the building. The fire damaged two adjoining apartments. Smoke detectors were heard sounding throughout the complex. The fire was brought under control within twenty minutes and the cause is currently under investigation. Damage is estimated at $35,000 dollars and there were no reported injuries.

First arriving Fire Company reported smoke in the stairway. Fire companies discovered a fire in the rear bedroom of an apartment on the second floor. The fire was quickly knocked down within 5 minutes and companies checked for extension into the building. Occupants were home at the time of the fire. The Fire Investigative Unit was called to investigate the fire. The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined at this time.

Engine 35 arrived first, reporting a working fire in the apartment. All occupants of the building had self evacuated before Fire Department arrival. The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes. Smoke detectors were present and sounding. The apartment occupant stated they fell asleep while cooking. Fire damage was held to the apartment of origin, with smoke damage to 2 additional units. 1 civilian was transported to the hospital for breathing difficulties. No injuries to firefighters reported. Damage is estimated at $10,000. 3 adults were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.

This lead to an electrical arc causing ignition of wall board and vinyl siding. Worker tried to extinguish using portable extinguisher. Flames still visible, FD notified. On arrival, occupants had self evacuated. Visible smoke was coming from gutter line on all sides of house. Firefighters pulled exterior siding and interior walls exposing fire in void space and were able to fully extinguish flames in 10 minutes. Damage is estimated at $2500.00.

Companies initiated an offensive attack while quickly searching the building to verify that all occupants were out of the fire apartment and adjacent apartments as well. Due to the large volume of fire and lightweight roof trusses, companies were temporarily withdrawn from the building and the fire darkened down with ladder pipes. Companies returned back to offensive operations a short time later and completed extinguishment. FIU Car 516 is investigating the cause of the fire, which is undetermined at this time. Red Cross and Metro were called to the scene to assist the displaced occupants. The Cincinnati Building Department also responded to assist with evaluating the damage to the building.

The three occupants who were home at the time were able to safely exit the building prior to the fire department arrival and confirm no one else was in the building. The smell of smoke alerted the occupants and there were working smoke detectors that sounded. The Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire and there were no reported injuries.
