Most towns of Cincinnati's size have a shift commander on duty at all times. In the case of the CFD this would be an assistant chief's position.
Does anyone feel there is a need for a position of this type in Cincinnati? Generally the shift commander would respond to all working fires and unusual incidents (HazMat, Engine 14B runs).
By the way, back in the old days in Cincinnati (pre 30's), in addition to the 6 assistant district marshalls on duty (district chiefs now), the district marshalls (now assistant chief equivelent) for the Northern & Southern dividions were on duty at all times so this really would not be something new.

Cincinnati has an Assistant Chief as the Duty Chief at night and weekends. I think they are paged on all major incidents and I have heard the DC's talking to the Duty Chief on Channel 7 and the Duty Chief either saying they were responding or just to keep them informed of the situation via radio/cell phone.

So, are there enough incidents that require the response of an assistant chief to justify this? I would like to hear some opinions on the issue!

This fire department doesn't have enough money to create another position for an AC. Not to mention we don't need one, the smoothest running fires are then ones that occur after 5 pm. Wonder why?

The idea would be to have the shift commander positions to be created by having 3 of the current A.C.'s moved back on to 24 hour shifts.

Maybe CFD should just create another DC. Isn't it time to bring back the 5th District!

ABSOLUTELY!
Heck, if we have a Working Fire, there are only 2 D.C.'s left to cover the entire city. Not to mention, 2 Working Fires = NO D.C.'S
