Does anyone want to take a test? There are 6 locations outside of the Cincinnati city limits that receive automatic aid by CFD on the 1st Alarm. Can you name any or all? (no cheating)
Actually, the procedures manual that I am viewing lists 6, however, I was thinking that there were 7 or 8.

One is the Bayer, formerly Monsanto plant, in Addyston. Don't know what CFD's current response is. It used to be just a foam unit - not the 50's. I used to run with Miami Twp. We were 2nd due, back when Addyston still had a FD. Now, Miami Twp is 1st in and I don't know CFD's current response.
Is there any AMA in St. Bernard, esp. along Spring Grove around P&G?
What about the Blue Ash airport or Glen View golf course since Cincinnati owns them?

Another thought: Franciscan Mount Airy/Providence hospital? It's in Springfield Twp. and their closest station is on Winton road.

Don't forget about the French House in French Park - a city owned park that sits smack dab in the middle of Amberley Village...

First, let me say that these answers are coming from a CFD procedures manual. In the past, I have found a few errors and/or things that were not totally up to date.
Anyway, according to this, so far we have 2 correct answers: 1. Bayer Corporation, Addyston 2. French Park, Amberley
I have heard CFD respond with St. Bernard, however, there is nothing from St. Bernard listed. I don't know if this could be because part of the property is inside the city and part in St. Bernard..........I don't know.
River Downs also sounds like a good one, however, it is not listed.
Franciscan Mt. Airy Hospital's building is in the Cincinnati city limits.
Volffemtp, I'm kinda confused about the Bayer response of 1 foam truck & No response by the 50's. Could this have been one of Bayer's foam trucks & for some reason CFD was not notified? I have a copy of the box card for Monsanto from approx. 1987 and even back then, it lists a full 3 & 2 complement plus specialty units (ie. Engine 50, 37, 17 Truck 6, 10 Squad 52 MAC 1 Foam 17 District 2).
A while back, I spoke to a former Addyston Fire Chief and he said that they were not dispatched on a 1 Alarm to Monsanto/Bayer. He stated that Addyston only provided EMS to the plant and all fire and hazmat response was handled by Bayer's FD and CFD. He gave me an example that if a spill occurred, Bayer and CFD would respond. He said that Addyston was not even notified on the 1st Alarm. Then, if there were injuries, they would call Addyston for EMS. If multiple injuries other county units would be requested.
I did hear a call to Bayer approx. a year ago & apparently a passerby called the Hamilton Co. Comm Center to report a building fire. I guess usually the calls come directly from Bayer & they know to call CFD. For this call, HCCC dispatched Miami Twp. Station 70 and Cleves Station 22. Then, apparently the county realized that CFD was on contract to Bayer & they called CFD (quite a few minutes after initial county dispatch). The 50's made it a can handle before any other city units arrived, but they did have a full complement enroute.

River Downs use to have a contract with the city to respond, although I don't recall the box # that was used. There was also a box # assigned to Neuman golf course that I think was in the 79XX series. (I used to have a set of CFD box cards, but I gave them to someone else or I'd look all these up!).
Northbound I-75 between Paddock & RR Highway is actually Springfield Twp but I've never seen STFD make a response. Also, wasn't there an agreement at one time that CFD would take Westbound I-74 between Montana and North Bend Road and that Green Township would take the same area eastbound?
Now you've got me thinkin Gregg!!

Good, a Springfield Twp. question. I think I may know the correct answer. That tiny stretch of I-75 is covered by Springfield Twp. I actually made a few runs there when I worked the township. Now on a different note, there is a tiny tiny stretch of I-275 that is in Springfield Twp. However, Colerain covers that area.
Now that you mention it, I think I recall that contract for River Downs. Let me call the box guru & see what I can find out.

Ok, according to the guru, River Downs is completely covered by Anderson Twp. on the 1st Alarm/initial dispatch. They can request CFD for mutual aid, but it is NOT automatic aid. If requested, CFD sends the box for Kellogg & Sutton.
In the St. Bernard area, some of the businesses are in fact located in both jurisdictions. According to the guru, the response depends on the actual location of the fire. For example, if the fire building is in the Cincinnati city limits on P&G property, then the box for Spring Grove & Kings Run would be dispatched. If the fire building is in St. Bernard, then St. B & Elmwood would go. He states that CFD only responds into St. Bernard upon mutual aid request & not automatic aid.
Apparently, Coney Island gets CFD because it is inside the Cincinnati city limits (at least the club house)
Blue Ash Airport does not get CFD due to the distant location from the city limits. However, I have some info pending that will contradict this. Hint.......one of the automatic aid locations is a real surprise (at least to me). It actually does not make sense to me.
Bayer in Addyston is CFD box 7681 French Park in Amberley is box 6951

Just realized something. Box 9123 is at Kellogg & Sutton. Is this entire intersection just inside Anderson Twp.? Was there an actual box at this intersection or is this a phantom box for River Downs?
I know it's one of those border intersections & I'm not sure who really has it.
Did that law ever pass that was making it harder for a city to annex land? A few years back wasn't Cincinnati trying to get River Downs? I believe so. Maybe there is no automatic aid there for political reasons. I would think that the township administration wouldn't want CFD responding in there.

It's not very pleasant way back there! Too many cobwebs..... ;D
O.K. CFD use to have a contract to ver River Downs, it's listed in the old annual reports. CFD struck a 3rd alarm for that fire in the sables there (1973 or so). Apparently they don't have the contract any longer.
Cincinnati Water Works has a facility on the Miami River in Fairfield. I don't know if CFD ever responded there or not.
I would also think that the Ohio River bridges would be automatic (say SB I-75).

You are probably right about the CFD box alarm for Bayer. However, I do recall a run when I ran with Miami Twp (86-91) when the 50's responded but said they were surprised to be there. The information we had then was that CFD would send a foam unit at the plant's request - no other units were mentioned. However, Addyston, Cleves, Miami Twp, Whitewater, Delhi, etc. all were involved in the biannual disaster drills. When we had those, we were told that we would work both US 50 & the plant. However, inside the plant, we would be guided by plant personnel.
It may have been a who calls where issue, but I was on a fire with Miami Twp at the Neumann golf course. It was in 86 - a large pile of railroad ties used for some construction was set on fire.
River Downs has it's own squad, but I don't know if they transport. I've heard Anderson go there a number of times.
Another city owned property that's far outside the city imits is the Bolton water plant on River road in Fairfield. Doubt that's on the list.
You've got me scratching my head on this.

Hint time. For the ones that we are missing, 1 is in the kinda far west, 2 slightly to the north and 1 is far east. I might add that 1 is not even in Hamilton Co. (east).
This has me really wondering as well. I can't believe that they respond out of the county on an automatic aid run. I could understand going to Northern Kentucky, but it's not.
There are 3 automatic aid locations that I have personally never heard a run to. 1 we have already answered & it's French Park.
I did have one of the CFD Chiefs inform me today that some of the procedures manuals are really outdated & this one was revised in approx. the mid 90's.

Ok, here are the answers (and like I said & like a CFD boss told me, most of these procedures manuals are outdated):
Bayer Corporation, Addyston Beckjord Power Station, Clermont Co. French Park, Amberley Miami Fort Power Station, Miami Twp. Hamilton Co. USI Chemicals, Springfield Twp. (now abandoned) Warder Nursery, Springfield Twp.
Beckjord is a real surprise to me.
Several years ago, I guess the late 80's, I was at a working fire at Miami Fort & I did NOT see CFD there anywhere. So, this may be a fairly new contract.
An expert firefighter, a.k.a. TV Star, has informed me that USI Chemicals left that location & U.C. moved a facility there for a little while. Now the building is still there, however, it is completely abandoned. So, my guess is that CFD isn't running there now.
I believe that Springfield Twp. completely owns the Warder Park / Warder Nursery now. If so, I assume that this may not be a current automatic response.
Any CFD guys have any input for us? Maybe you have a different manual. This is listed in the Dispatch Procedures Section 703 (703.57).
Thanks to everyone for participating. It forced me into making some phone calls & doing a lot of research. I learned a few things from it.
