Wouldn't it be nice to have something on our heads that shows that we are fire fighters. Not something that looks like a poor excuse for a salad bowl?

I was kind of surprised that there wasn't more response to this poll. It does seem that everyone is in agreement that a more traditional style helmet would be nice!

There is a grass roots effort I and a few others are trying to start to make a change to these for the 50th ann. No news yet. Any CFD members interested? Make your opinion known to the 50th Committee (Steve Sierveld).

When you say "traditional" helmets for CFD, does that mean metal Pettibone style helmets worn by CFD from the late 1800's through the 1970's?

I think its an excellent idea. While were at it lets get the hip boots and jean jackets with the orange rubber gloves back.

It's all really personal choice. Traditional leather helmets are heavier than their composite conterparts. However, I owned and used a leather N5A for several years and I don't recall any neck pain after prolonged use.
Like I said, it's all personal choice. Some like the Cairns 1010's, some like the Ben II's, and others like the Bullard model.
I would like to spend some time with the new Conway and Phenix leather helmets. I hear that they are much lighter than the Cairns leather models.
Stay safe! Mark
