Hi,
I haven't heard anything since last fall. Back then I was told that the rig would only be purchased if Federal grant money was received to buy the vehicle. Did the grant come through? I was also told that the apparatus would be a twin to Squad 14's apparatus.

The new heavy rescue has been ordered. It will be identical to Sq-14 on the exterior with some modifications to the cab interior and compartments. Expected delivery date is sometime later in the year.

I saw a new rescue truck at the municipal garage, either this past Monday or Tuesday, which I assume it is the new Squad 9. Looked similar to Squad 14, except it had red/yellow chevrons on the front bumper and I believe the rear of the truck as well. It was the addition of the chevrons which showed it wasn't 14 at the garage. Plus it was unmarked.

O.K. Everyone knows that I don't like the white roof concept - and I HATE chevrons. Yes I know it's a safety thing, but I want to see traditional looking apparatus. Eventually the paint color on rigs will be replaced with all chevrons that will have a giant white stripe down the middle so that you'll know it's a fire engine. Red paint will no longer be a necessary item. Warning lights and sirens won't be need either as the look of the vehicle will scare people out of the way.... It feels good to vent.
B.T.W. Andrew, thanks for the update as your's is the first sighting that I've heard of on the new rig.

P.S. Some nice photos of last nights 3 alarm have been posted. Just look in the fire incidents section!

Squad 9's new CS/Rosenbauer was delivered last Wednesday. Still needs radios, CAD, etc. installed. We will be working on equipment mounting over the next couple of weeks. No firm date on getting it in-service.
The chevrons are the new NFPA standard. I was sort of skeptical until I saw a demo in person. You can see them from a great distance. Any safety edge we can get while working on the highway is a plus (since working in traffic is the second most dangerous thing we do, IMHO). I will sacrifice looks for the chance of going home at the end of my shift any day of the week.

Squad 9 went out of service due to transmission problems late at night on the 6th of February. They changed over into an older style E-1 aerial ladder. From the sounds of it they will not be back in it before their new Rosenbauer goes in service. It looks like the Ferraras days as a front line heavy rescue are over. It will make a great spare.

Word has it that the rig may not be going to Squad 9. I was told that Squad 14 may be receiving the new delivery. As always - wait until it is in the station with a number on the door to be certain!

After a minor "bump in the road", we received word yesterday that we (Sq-9) will be getting the new apparatus. Of course, we are talking about the CFD, so that may be subject to change although it is not anticipated.
As far as getting rid of the Salisbury and the old MAC, they were being used past their time. When the Salisbury went down (for good) in '06, it was going to cost $20,000 or more to get it back on the road. It was worth much less than that. The MAC's engine blew and it was having SEVERE brake problems. Once again, it was going to cost more to fix it than what it was worth. The decision to sell both, I believe, hinged on the fact that the new Rosenbauer was ordered.
I can put up with changing over into a truck instead of changing over into the Salisbury or the MAC (knowing that we would be changing over into a truck anyway when one of the above broke down two days after changing over into it).

cfd piper since you mentioned that i guess i can see why they wanted to get rid of the 2 old trucks. i wasn't aware the old trucks were in that bad of shape.
