The new apparatus is supposedly to go into service on the 21st (tomorrow). Sq 9 has been operating out of Mac one for a week because of mechanical problems with the Saulsbury. I am sure they are hoping we change into the new one tomorrow as they will inherit the Ferarra from us. I guess they will need to buy some more "9" stickers for it. As for us, our new one will have a "14" on the door. Bittersweet. Here's a few photos from a month and a half ago when they brought it to the fire house for the first time.

On July 18 at approximately 19:00 the new apparatus #61710 of Squad 52(14) was put in service. Within 48 hours it was removed from service for a mechanical problem. On July 21, again around 19:00 it returned to service. During the period that the new vehicle was out of service, the Squad ran out of a spare ladder truck, and was only able to carry about 25% of the equipment that is normally assigned.
The Ferrara #71710 was removed from service and taken to the garage for PM and refitting so it can be assignned to Squad 9 as a frontline vehicle. Read on, as this may be a temporary condition.
In case anyone cares, the Saulsbury #51710 is in the basement at the garage (tire shop area), no work is being done to it and its future is questionable. Apparrently the cost to maintain it has made it unserviceable as an emergency vehicle.
On another side note, Squad 9 has received the verbal OK to order a new apparatus that will be the sister of Squad 52(14)'s apparatus (same bid, reduced time to spec and build). Thats all I have for now.

Question: How are the shop numbers assigned? I noticed that the new truck is #61710, the Ferrara is #71710, and the old Saulsbury is #51710. Does #__710 indicate heavy rescue unit?

The first digit of the city equipment number actually indicates the date. The "6" is for 2006. On the Ferrera, the "7" is for 1997, and on the old Saulsbury the "5" is for 1985.

The 1985 Ford/Saulsbury was on the lot during the municipal auction this past Saturday. Was it sold, and if so does anyone know where the rig is going?
