Are members of Squad 52 certified public safety divers? I know that some years back, the SCUBA gear and dive status was removed from Squad 52. Has this changed? <br> I realize that they are qualified for almost any situation, however, it is my opinion that this prestigious and talented company should be certified for all types of Technical Rescues (ie. Vehicle Extrication, Industrial/Machinery Extrication, Confined Space Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Trench Rescue, Collapse Rescue, as well as Water Rescue, Ice Rescue, Swift Water Rescue).
Should City Hall support the idea and fund whatever additional resources may be necessary (additional Rescue Technicians / Specialists, possibly additional Rescue apparatus and equipment)? If it will save at least 1 life, isn't it worth it?
There may be a need for 2 Rescue Trained companies. Consider that for Technical Rescue calls such as Trench or Building Collapse or Dive Rescue/Recovery, to be completely effective and safe, it is likely that you actually need 2 full Rescue Trained Companies. Maybe Squad 52 plus a Truck Company that is also Squad 52 trained to serve as a back-up.
