Hi! I posted this previously on the old BB, but I'm still wondering. Will CR 1 be CR 18 with the new rig? The numbers on the apparatus are all 18's. Also, is the rig in service yet?

Hello.
Stopped by the Muni. Garage today, 11/21/2001. CR-18 was out in the sun with wheels! They were doing some final work on the roof turret. They say it should be in service soon, but could not give a specific date.

Hi Steve, I received info from a reliable source that says "Supposedly" the Oshkosh will still be called CR 1. He says that the large 18 on the side is on it since it is housed at the 18's house and for control tower purposes. He also says that the 1970 CR 1 will be kept as a spare. Still no exact in service date . Thanks Gregg

Stopped and took a look in the window at the garage last Saturday. The Oshkosh is still there. Will this rig ever be seen on Wilmer Road?

I think that they made a big mistake by jumping into this purchase. They should have got one of the 1986's from CVG.

Hey the city messed up on one other thing with this unit, The NFPA has stated that by 2004 all CFRs have to be RED. The change has come after studies that red is seen better from the sky than the lime yellow that blends into the airport surondings. Just a thought, it will have to be repainted soon. dano

I heard that the Oshkosh was previously involved in a rollover accident while in service up in Dayton. Can anyone confirm?

I hear that the Oshkosh is now at Lunken, however, it is not yet in service. <br> Apparently it is so wide, that it is extremely difficult to back it in to the firehouse, so they must drive it straight through. The driveway that it will have to use is curved too much for the rig to make the turn & they must change the driveway.

I know the question has been asked before, but is the Oshkosh rig in service yet with C R 1?

O.K. Now I've heard that the Oshkosh is CR 18, but has the rig actually entered service?

O.K., my last post on this topic was almost a year ago! Now back to the question. Is the Oshkosh in service? Also, is the old CR 1 going to be sold when the "new" rig goes on the track?

"Big Yellow" was not in service as of last Wednesday. I think it's been fixed up about as good as it's going to get.
The hold up now is waiting for Fire College to give some sort of practical test for those who will driving. All members have taken several written test & one airport driver's saftey test. There are also issues of training documentation as required by FAA, the training itself & installation of an automatic gate (leading to runways behind firehouse) as well as some type of security equipment. The asphalt pavement in front of the firehouse has been expanded to accomodate Big Yellow's turn into the firehouse.
I believe the old CR-1 will be kept as a spare. Rumor is that the Water Tanker will be sold. The rust coming off the inside of the tank is so bad that if you use it to supply a pumper, the intakes clog up so fast with rust that it makes the operation unsafe. I don't know why we can't put a stainless steel or fiberglass tank on the back & keep it. I heard a painting contractor say he wouldn't touch it. It shouldn't cost a whole lot to maintain & it can be and has been useful for outdoor fires & areas where water is scarce.
