I've been trying to find out when the last horse drawn response was for the CFD. This event was often a staged response in many towns as the horses were retired.
Motorization was completed in 1922, but I don't know which company was the last to be motorized. Apparatus was moved around in the early motorized period while decision were made as to which companies would remain in service.
For example, Engines 11, 26, and 41 were all motorized but disbanded soon afterward.
So, please post a message if you have any information reagrding these events!

Grettings; My father was born in Cincinnati 1918. His family left Cincinnati 1929 for the"Boom Years" of Detroit, Michigan in his words! My father, told me he lived two houses down from the "Last Steam Powered Hourse Drawn Firewagon in Cincinnati 1929. At an online site called; "Ohio Memories on line scrapbook" www.ohiomemory.org/ I found a History and full color picture of the; "London Belle", made 1871 at a cost of $7,200 in London, Ohio. The London Belle was rebuilt by the American Fire Company of Cincinnati in 1898, Last used 1929 in Cincinnati. I have also discovered that a distant relative; William A. McGinnis born 1855 in Kentucky, lived at 884 Eastern Ave., in Cincinnati was a Fireman according to the 1890-91 City Directory. He died 1897 in Cincinnati. I am looking for the fire house he may have worked out of close to his house. In the hopes of finding a picture of that fire company. Thanks for any and all information in advance Tom in Florida.

Hi Tom,
Based on the address you provided, William McGinnins most likely was assigned to Engine 11 on Eastern Avenue.
In Cincinnati, the last horse drawn apparatus was replaced in 1922. One of the goals the History Book Committe has is to try and document the last run of the horses here.
If I can find any additional information regarding Mr. McGinnis, I'll post it here.
Take care,
Steve
