1 Alarm Fire: 4131 Glenway Avenue. (Price Hill) Date: 05/25/06 Time: 10:56 a.m.
This is District Two Fire Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 4131 Glenway Avenue on May 25, 2006.
At 10:56 am fire companies were dispatch to a report of a building on fire. While en-route, fire crews reported smoke-in-the-area, upon arriving confirmed a working fire in a one-story business complex.
The Yester Year Furniture business, which occupies the east side of the building, had heavy fire and smoke showing at the glass front display windows. An interior attack on the flames brought the fire under control with a short period of time. A primary search of the structure confirmed all occupants had exited safely.
Fire and smoke damage was confined to the furniture business. However, the printing business in the basement section of the building sustained some water damage. A fire investigator was called to the scene to assist with determining the fire cause. At this time, the cause is undetermined pending further investigation. Fire loss to structure and content was estimated at $50,000. There were no injuries to civilians or fire fighters at this incident.

1 Alarm Fire: 3831 Drakewood Avenue (Oakley) Date: 05/25/06 Time: 07:15 p.m.
This is District Four-Fire Chief Rob McWilliams reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred on May 25, 2006 at 7:15 PM at 3831 Drakewood Avenue in Oakley.
When fire units arrived, they found smoke coming from the attic area of a one story single-family dwelling. An aggressive interior fire attack was made on the fire, which was contained to front portion of the structure's roof and attic area.
The fire was caused by a lightning strike, 28 Firefighters were on the scene for two hours extinguishing the fire and overhauling. No one was home at the time of the fire. Damage is estimated at $20,000.

2 Alarm Fire: 103 West Clifton Avenue btn. Ohio & Zier Pl. (Over The Rhine) Date: 05/25/06 Time: 10:40 p.m.
This is District Two Fire Chief Gary Scott reporting on a two-alarm fire, which occurred at 103 West Clifton Avenue on May 25, 2006.
At 10:40 pm, fire companies were dispatched to a report of a church on fire at 45 West McMicken.
First arriving companies reported smoke-in-the-area. Within a short period of time, fire personnel discovered that the source of the smoke was not from the church, but from a three-story vacant wood frame building behind the church, located at 103 West Clifton.
Fire companies had to be re-deployed to the structure fire on West Clifton.Once on the fire scene, fire crews attempted an interior attack on the fire. Within a short period of time, visible fire was showing on all levels of the building. The Incident Commander ordered all operations to go defensive and a two-alarm was transmitted. Ladder-pipe operations along with 2 ½ inch fire lines were set-up on the exterior of the building.
It took approximately an hour to bring the fire under control. A fire investigator was called to the scene to assist with determining a fire cause; that occurred in the boarded-up vacant building with all utilities shut-off. Also a building inspector was called to the scene to evaluate the integrity of the structure.
The cause of the fire is undetermined; the fire loss was set at $30,000. There were 52 fire personnel utilized at the incident with no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

2 Alarm Fire: 3440 Larona Avenue btn Northern & Rockdale (Avondale) Box No: 2-2-2343 Date: 06/03/2006 Time: 05:49 AM
This is Acting District 3 Chief Paul Garbon reporting on a two-alarm fire, which occurred this morning, 6-3-06, at 05:49 AM in Avondale.
A second floor tenant of 3440 Larona Avenue discovered the fire after smelling smoke. The tenants of this large, two family brick dwelling escaped the building unharmed. Thick smoke and a large volume of fire greeted the first arriving fire companies and a quick interior attack was mounted.
The fire rapidly spread into the third floor walls and attic spaces hampering containment operations. A second alarm fire response was requested bringing additional manpower.
Due to the rapid advancement of the fire, and the possibility of flashover, crews were pulled from the building and set up defensive hose streams. Fifteen minutes later, fire crews re-entered the structure and completed final extinguishment. The fire was confined to the third floor and attic.
The American Red Cross is on the scene and is attending to the needs of four displaced occupants.
Approximately 40 firefighters were utilized to bring this fire under control in two hours. Fire Investigators are on the scene at this time; the cause of the fire is undetermined. Damage to the apartment building is estimated at approximately $100,000. Smoke alarms were in operation.

1 Alarm Fire: 3240 Queen City Avenue Date: 6/13/06 Time: 12:39 AM
This is District Chief David Collini reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred in Westwood this A.M.
Fire companies were dispatched to 3240 Queen City Avenue at 12:39 AM for a report of an explosion and fire in the basement of a one-story brick single-family dwelling.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke billowing from rear of the structure. It was determined that the occupant was working on a motorcycle that had a leaking gas tank.
The fumes found an ignition source and exploded resulting in a fire in the structure's garage. Extensive damage occurred to the structure's garage and the motorcycle; the fire loss is estimated at $10,000. The fire was confined to garage. All occupants managed to escape unharmed. Smoke detectors were present and operating in the structure.
It is important to stress the fact to not work on or store flammable liquids or equipment that operates on these fuels near ignition sources such as water heaters or furnaces, etc.

1 Alarm Fire: 1027 Considine Avenue (Price Hill) Date: 06/16/06 Time: 03:03 a.m.
This is District 2 Fire Chief Gary Scott reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 1027 Considine Avenue on June 16, 2006. At 3:03 AM fire companies were dispatched to a report of a residential apartment building on fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed heavy smoke in the rear of a two-story brick townhouse. An interior attack on the first floor fire was initiated along with a primary search of the two-story apartment. The main body of fire, located in the kitchen was knocked-down within a short period of time. The primary search confirmed all clear. Two adults who were occupants exited their apartment safely. Fire damage was confined to two rooms on the structure's first floor. The cause of the fire was "food on the stove" with an estimated fire loss set at $10,000. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist with the displacement of the two adults. Smoke alarms were present and sounding. There were 28 fire personnel utilized at this incident; they were on the fire scene for approximately two hours.

1 Alarm Fire: 609 Walnut Street (Metropole Apartments) CBD Date: 06/16/06 Time: 4:30 PM
This is District Chief Anson Turley reporting on a fire, which occurred at 609 Walnut Street this evening around 4:30 PM in Downtown.
Upon their arrival fire crews noticed smoke coming out of the seventh floor of a high-rise structure. The fire, which appears to have been caused by food left unattended cooking on a stove, resulted in the evacuation of the building. The occupants were notified of the danger by the building's internal fire alarm system.
It took 30 firefighters approximately 10 minutes to bring the fire under control. There were no firefighter injuries but one civilian was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The fire apparently started in a seventh floor apartment. Damage has been set at $5000.

1 Alarm FIre: 2469 Westwood Northern Boulevard Date: 06/20/06 Time: 4:16 a.m.
This is District Two Chief John Zompero of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on an early morning fire that occurred in a Westwood apartment complex.
Fire companies were dispatched at 4:16 am to 2469 Westwood Northern Boulevard for a report of smoke coming from an apartment. First arriving fire crews found light smoke in a two-story, occupied multi-dwelling. After forcing entry, they discovered a kitchen fire in what appeared to be an unoccupied apartment. The fire was quickly extinguished while other tenants were evacuated. The fire did an estimated $10,000 damage to the structure and its contents. Currently the fire is being listed as suspicious; the apartment was reported to be vacant. Smoke alarms were installed and sounding throughout the building. There were no reported injuries.

This is Acting District Three-Fire Chief Joseph Robertson reporting on a one-alarm fire, which occurred at 3928 Vine Street in North Avondale.
Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 3928 Vine Street at 11:58 am. Upon arrival firefighters found fire showing from the second floor rear of an occupied two-story brick dwelling, shortly thereafter fire crews made an interior aggressive attack on the fire and a primarily search of the structure for occupants. The fire was brought under control rapidly, and the occupant was found not to be home. Fire and smoke damage was confined to the second floor.
Fire damage is estimated at $20,000. Firefighters were on the scene of the fire for about three hours. Twenty-five firefighters were utilized to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Smoke Detectors were found on the second floor.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 3587 Alaska Avenue at 5:57 pm. Upon arrival firefighters found fire showing from the attic of an occupied 2A brick dwelling. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire.
The fire was brought under control rapidly; fire and smoke damage was confined to the structure's attic. Damage is estimated at $30,000 to the building. Fire fighters were on the scene of the fire for about three hours. Twenty-five fire fighters were utilized to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Smoke Detectors were found in the attic.

1 Alarm Fire: 1804 Elm Street Date: 7-07-06 Time: 08:54 AM
This is Acting District Fire Chief Michael T. Battle reporting on a one-alarm fire that occurred at 1804 Elm Street in Over the Rhine.
At 08:54 AM fire crews responded to a three-story brick structure, which is used for storage. Individuals arriving for work at that location reported the incident, after discovering smoke in the structure.
Twenty-nine Cincinnati Firefighters responded to the incident and found two small fires in basement ceiling joists, and the fire was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, and fire damage is estimated at $10,000.

3 Alarm Fire: 4 West 15th Street (Over The Rhine) Date: 07/08/06 Time: 2:44 a.m.
This is District Chief Fredrick Prather of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a three-alarm fire that occurred in a four-story multi-dwelling. The structure is located at 4 West 15th Street in Over The Rhine.
On Saturday 7/08/06 at 2:43 AM Cincinnati Fire Companies were dispatched to a report of clothes on fire in the hallway of the building located at 4 West 15th Street. Upon firefighters arriving, a young lady confronted them and confirmed that a fire was in the structure's stairwell.
Soon thereafter firefighters reported heavy fire on the first and second floors of the structure, and that occupants were trapped in the building. Additional firefighters were called to the incident to assist in rescue and fire control activities. On the second and third floors of the structure, individuals were leaning out of windows asking for assistance. Cincinnati firefighters rescued a total of 34 individuals, using ground and aerial ladders, fire escapes and the stairwell after the fire had been extinguished on the various floors of the structure. Upon exiting the building, occupants were assisted medically, with temporary shelter and in other ways.
In regards the fire, it was very intense and spread rapidly up the stairwell into the building's attic. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on it bringing the main body of fire under control within 10 minutes.
Additional time was required to extinguish hot spots and to carry out other fire ground activities. Fire personnel are currently on the scene assisting Fire Investigators. The fire cause is undetermined; the fire damage estimate is $100,000.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury while fighting the fire. Firefighter Christopher Cotter a 13-year veteran received six stitches as a result of a minor head laceration.
The Cincinnati Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to the incident and is assisting 11 families with housing; 28 adults and six children were displaced from their homes. Please note smoke alarms were in place and were working. The fire that occurred today, 7/8/06, was the second major fire at that location which required the rescue of occupants. On 12/31/94, Cincinnati Firefighters rescued multiple individuals from the buildings during a four-alarm fire.

Upon arrival fire company's confirmed a working fire in a four-story brick multi-dwelling. The fire was contained to the third floor hallway. The fire was brought under control with an aggressive interior attack in less than 10 minutes.
A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is undetermined. The fire loss was set at $1,000; no occupants were displaced. There were 28 fire personnel at this incident.

This is Acting District One Fire Chief Steve Linz reporting on a two-alarm fire at 3060 O'Bryan Street. The fire was reported at 11:43 AM.
Forty-seven firefighters responded to the incident and found a vacant one-story building fully involved with the fire extending to adjacent buildings. The fire was quickly brought under control with no civilian or firefighters injured.
The cause of the fire is undetermined with a loss estimated at $40,000.

2 Alarm Fire: 4018 Glenway Avenue btn Iliff & Regina (Price Hill) Date: 07/10/06 Time: 09:54 p.m.
This is District Chief Howard Reed from the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a two-alarm fire that occurred in a three-story structure, that has a restaurant on its first floor and apartments on its second and third floors. The structure is located at 4018 Glenway Avenue in Western Hill.
On Monday 7/10/06 at 9:54 p.m., Fire Companies were dispatched to a report of a fire at 1201 Iliff Avenue. On our arrival, we found heavy fire coming from two windows on the structure's second floor. The fire also extended into one of the third floor windows.
Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and brought it under control in less than 15 minutes. There was major fire and smoke damage to the second floor apartment. In addition to minor water damage in the restaurant, minor fire and smoke damage occurred to a third floor apartment.
It is uncertain if smoke alarms worked because of the amount of fire damage that occurred to the apartment of origin: a working smoke alarm was in the third floor apartment. The cause of this fire is undetermined at this time. Fire Investigator Vickie Goodson is handling the investigation.
There were no civilians injured, but there was a report of one firefighter receiving first-degree burns to a small area of his face and neck. The fire caused approximately $30,000 loss to the structure and its contents.
