First arriving companies found a working fire in a 3 story, ordinary construction multi-dwelling. An offensive attack was initiated, and the bulk of the fire was knocked down quickly; however, fire had spread through void spaces and the Fire Co’s had to open all voids to extinguish the fire completely. A 2nd Alarm was dispatched due to multiple “hot” spots and the extreme cold weather. Red Cross responded to assist with 5 displaced adults.

INJURIES TO CIVILIANS OR FIREFIGHTERS: One child was transported to Children’s Hospital. ESTIMATED DAMAGE: $25,000. CAUSE (IF KNOWN): Combustible too close to space heater # OF PEOPLE DISPLACED: 2 adults SMOKE DETECTORS PRESENT: Yes BRIEFLY DESCRIBE INCIDENT: Fire companies were dispatched to a building on fire. Units arrived on scene of a 5 story multi-family dwelling, with heavy smoke showing from the front of the building on the second floor. A quick, aggressive interior attack brought the fire under control within 10 minutes. (2) Adults and (8) children were rescued from the fourth floor via an aerial ladder due to the stairwells and their apartment being untenable due to heavy smoke conditions. There was one child transported to Children’s Hospital for smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross was called to assist with displacement of (2) adults.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE INCIDENT: Companies were dispatched for a report of a bedroom on fire in an apartment building. Upon arrival, fire was venting from two windows on the second floor of a 3 story, ordinary construction multi-dwelling. A second alarm was transmitted due to occupants still escaping the building on arrival. The fire was quickly knocked down by first arriving companies. The fire apartment and all other apartments were quickly searched and it was found that all tenants were able to evacuate themselves. The cause of the fire was a candle burning on a nightstand too close to other combustibles. The Red Cross will be assisting one adult and 1 child with temporary housing. Smoke detectors were present and working, and damage is estimated at $20,000. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

It took crews approximately 5 minutes to extinguish the fire, but remained on the scene an additional 30 minutes. Fire damage was confined to the room of origin in the apartment. The cause of the fire is currently listed undetermined and under investigation.

The fire was quickly brought under control in less than 10 minutes, and a primary search for occupants was negative. The homeowner returned as the firefighters were extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the FIU, who is still on scene at the time of this press release . The occupants advised that they had family that they would stay with as necessary. The cause of the fire is estimated at $20,000.

They made an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control in less than 10 minutes, and conducted a primary search of the building which was negative. The cause of the fire is unauthorized cooking fire by squatters.

CFD Fire Investigator Graduates Valedictorian
Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD) wishes to congratulate Fire Specialist James Hutchings of CFD’s Fire Investigation Unit. Specialist Hutchings graduates from the 104th Cincinnati Police Recruit Class tomorrow, February 27th at 1:30 p.m. at the Cincinnati Masonic Center.
As part of their training, Cincinnati Fire Investigators are required to achieve certification as a State of Ohio Peace Officer. The training improves their ability to understand and enforce the law, as it pertains to arson or environmental crimes.
“We are especially proud of Specialist Hutchings, who has shown the professionalism that represents the spirit of the Cincinnati Fire Department,” stated Fire Chief Richard Braun.

On arrival, they ascertained that there were three injured occupants and all were trapped in vehicle. The entrapment complement was requested and all patients were extricated from vehicle within ten minutes. Mild to moderate injuries were sustained. Cause of the accident is believed to be a u-turn in front of another vehicle. CPD investigating.

First arriving Companies found a working fire in the basement of a 2 story frame with an attic. The fire had extended from the basement ceiling into the wall of the first floor. The fire was caused by a worker drilling through the outside wall to install fibro optics to the residence, and his drill hit the electrical service to the building. Once the fire burned through the service wire, de-energizing the service, the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes. No occupants were displaced and Fire Companies were on the scene for approximately one hour.

All fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, and further extension into the attic was kept to a minimum. Heavy damage was incurred by the apartment of origin and to the attic area directly above. The only tenants displaced will be those occupying the fire apartment. Unknown how many, as they did not remain on scene.

Upon arrival fire companies found heavy smoke coming from 2081 Seymour Ave. (The Integrity Hall building). The building is currently vacant however Initial arriving companies were informed there may be up to three people in the building. All windows were boarded up with plywood which presented dangerous conditions for firefighters operating inside the building. Fire companies advanced fire attack lines into the building and extinguished the fire. Heavy smoke continued from the building until ventilation could be accomplished. Primary and secondary searches were conducted and no one was found. Companies remained on the scene for over an hour clearing smoke and checking for hot spots.
